I got rid of my 06 base Z for a car that I've always wanted. I still don't know if I made the right move here. The Z was ok on gas, but lacked the space I wanted/needed. I had a few things done to it (mods in sig) and I loved it. I just wanted more space and more power.
I went from this: 259rwhp/235rwtq
2003 Ford Mustang Cobra 10th Anniversary Vert. ( 1 of 384 )
Mods: K&N FIPK, Borla Catback, Tune 430rwhp/400rwtq
I think if money permits, I'm gonna pick up an 07 or 08 Z as my daily. If not, this car will be paid off in a 3 years and maybe I'll get a 370z??

+1.......while I hate Rustangs I have to admit they (cobras) perform well.....but surely isn't as sexy and all around as fun to drive as a Z
I agree 100%

If I do, I'm going to port the Eaton, 2.93 upper pulley, 4lb lower pulley, twin ford gt pumps, FPDM, MAFia, and tires to hold the power. That would put me well over 500RWHP/RWTQ.

Thanks. Also, a vert was NOT my first choice. I had been looking for a decent Cobra, with low miles, and in my price range (under 22k). But could never find the right one. I bought this car from a friend and knew the complete history of it. My friend lost his job 7 months ago and had to shell out $700 a month for it. So, I figured I'd help a friend out and take it off his hands. I got it for 19K. If this car weren't the Anniversary edition, i would have passed cause I'm really not a vert guy.

What I miss most about the Z was how nimble it was. To this day I have never driven a car that handled so well and had NO body roll.
You need to find an ace alignment shop and get some coilovers and stiffer sways. A cobra can be made to handle just as nice as a Z. I would say 5k gets it done. Do it, your car is a growingly rare powerhouse.
Oh crap I just noticed you have a vert. Why, if handling is a concern, would you buy a vert? Sell the vert, get a coupe then do what i said.

I know I know....the vert thing.
I didn't buy the Cobra for its cornering or handling abilities but more for it's straight line performance.

wheres the fun in owning a car that is only fun in the twisties. when 95% of the roads you will ever get to drive on, are mostly straightlines??
this is the main reason i got rid of my Z. it was more of a PITA around town, and for general driving. and i would rather drive the 540hp V8 i have, for virtually any driving situation ive been in, aside from autox or drifting. plus the V8 car is way more comfortable than the Z was. so even when i go through the twisties in the mountains, id rather be comfortable, and have the passing torque of my V8.
personally i think the OP made a good choice. the Z is a purpose built car for the track. it can be a lot of fun in the right situations. but how often do those situations ever arise in your life, unless you live next door to a race track??

I haz a soft spot for that model Cocbra, it screams for attention. Not so much the vert, but still a nice machine. Congrats
