To add to that, the air bags wont deploy if the occupant wasn't wearing a seat belt.

the truck qualifies because since the Ford is a class 1 truck, the rules change.. you only have to get minimal mpg improvement from your old truck to the new one, and get the $4500 rebate.. (me thinks it is a ploy by car company lobbiests to the Man, to help move stagnant inventory of the plethora of trucks on dealer lots, but then they pwn anyone who wants a decently practical car that's fun to drive.)

we tried to call around to the Hyundai dealerships.. no one has the 2.0T track in stock! doh.. have to keep looking i guess....

Although not specifically mentioned by cheston... I'm almost positive his cousin isn't blind.

I've always liked the looks of these, but then again I also like the way pre-GM Saabs looked.

looks good to me, yeah it does look lowered and different wheels, and body mods but he did say his cousin might wanna modify somethings. plus there are some decent bolt-on upgrades for the T5 engine.

...
If it was my choice, i'd probably pass on the non-turbo AWD choices too, since that would limit some of his modding potentials, say, 5 years down the line when he can start really affording the fun parts.. the only benefit there is he's a snowboarder, so he is used to going to the mountains in the ford, so at least he can still do that if he gets the AWD..granted he gets a roof rack, and proper tires. etc.

i didnt think about the Altima Hybrid or the Civic SI-- that's a good one, forgot about that one! looks like if he goes to another class 1 truck, the Acura RDX turbo SUV will work.. wtf.
Go Bruins! I'm a UCLA alum, class of 97 (96 if I'd finished in four years).

Hmm, being 6'3" can really limit his choices. Some of the smaller cars on the list might be very uncomfortable. As for modding and so on, hmm, the Altima Hybrid is probably a bad choice from that POV. People don't exactly mod hybrids for performance, but rather for fuel economy. (This is extreme and doesn't exist for the NAH: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-p...-in-prius.html which yielded him 2502 miles on 8.355 gallons of gas http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-p...c-vehicle.html.)

It looks like the NAH $3250 incentive has been extended until August 31st. I got clued into this when I saw people reported screaming deals at http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f...mv-fees-21884/ and http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f...omments-22000/.

Since traffic can be hell in LA, esp. in rush hour, he'd probably appreciate the fact that the gas engine won't run (wasting gas) most of the time while he's stuck idling or creeping along. I hate driving non-hybrids (esp. my Z) when I'm stuck in traffic or doing a ton of idling at lights as it's so wasteful.

One big downside to the NAH is the trunk is very small due to the HV battery. Also, there's no rear seat pass thru to the trunk at all, again. due to the battery.

I don't like the Scion xB as I think it's ugly and it's got a weird interior. At least it's no longer underpowered like the 1st gen.

For those who are confused about what qualifies for what amounts as an upgrade from an Exploder, see http://www.edmunds.com/cash-for-clun...ulus-bill.html. One can easily lookup EPA mileage figures at www.fueleconomy.gov.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/CarsSearchIntro.shtml

do the "i'm ready to begin"

when you select your new car, they will tell you at the bottom if it qualifys or not.

eg. Subaru Impreza Turbo manaual

"Sorry, passenger cars must get at least 22 MPG to qualify. "

it is also in "The Official Rules"
http://www.cars.gov/files/official-information/rule.pdf

Quote:
In addition to the definitional categories, the new vehicle purchased or leased
under the program must achieve a minimum combined fuel economy level. For new
passenger automobiles the combined fuel economy must be at least 22 miles per gallon,
for category 1 trucks it must be at least 18 miles per gallon, and for category 2 trucks it
must be at least 15 miles per gallon. Category 3 trucks have no minimum fuel economy
requirement.

There's also a good summary at http://www.edmunds.com/cash-for-clun...ulus-bill.html. One can lookup EPA numbers at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ using the Find and Compare links on the left.

You'd better finish your "looking around" as it's likely going to end real soon. See http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Admini...02823.html?x=0 for instance.
