Some Portraits and Maryland/Washington DC vacation pics
Came back last week from DC, and I'm still recovering from the body breaking experience of flying to the East Coast to and from Hawaii.
Went to Maryland to visit family for a graduation party.
The graduate (my niece) and her friend were my practice subjects. I didn't have my whole lighting options available back home, so I made due with what I had... 2 Sunpak 383's and Skyport Triggers with a nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8 which I'm glad I kept, cause it's small size is perfect for travel... my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is way to big and heavy to be hauling around at the airport and around on sight seeing) on a 40D. I practiced this type of shot in a hallway last time on a Jack Russel. I love rim light, hence the setup. Setup was real simple, handheld one 383 (cause I didn't have my light stands) for bounce off the ceiling, and balanced the other 383 on my luggage handle directly behind the subjects. Just go full power on the flash in back and tell someone to hold a dark colored sheet for the background. I shot in a white narrow hallway, hence the catch lights. Certainly would have been better if the girls were window lit.
This was done as a spur of the moment idea after I photographed the gun arsenal of my niece's dad, the night before we flew out in the morning, and I'm surprised with the results from a rushed practice portrait shoot... as some already know, I RARELY take shots other than that of my Z.
...and the misc shots.... more to come later...
... I thought this was an interesting room...
So much protesters and picketers in front of the White House... really wasn't expecting it...
