^ shots looks clean as hell bro

Here's the sb 600 I just added to use as a slave to my commander SB 900 - strobist setup is almost complete - just need to get the flash mount brackets to come in.

/\/\/\/\ Nice now get creative w/ lighting!!! I think w/ the D700 is the same as the D300 where you can use the built-in flash as commander allowing you to use the sb-900 and the sb-600 as slaves. This is super beneficial specially once you get the umbrellas and what not...

Well i had to put the Z to sleep till spring, I am going top miss her!!! But know I get to bond w/ the daily... Got all the the fluids changed (radiator fluid, Engine oil, brake oil), tires rotated, new brake pads, changed filter(intake & fuel), new spark plugs and wires, wiper blades and finally a good wash followed w/ a light coat of wax and rain X / anti-fog.

reliable and fun!!! Love her too lol

^ That's a sweet daily But yeah I'm planning on using them both as slaves. I got the SB 900 for weddings and fashion show use and the sb 600 is only for strobist needs

Man, I didn't know the SB900 dwarfs the SB600 that much lol. Here's a pic of my hardware. I'm very limited, but I will "slowly" work my way up. Hopefully I can catch up to you guys one day

Nikon D40

Been using it about a year now and I think I'm ready for the next level. Do you think it is safe to purchase a D90 from Craigslist?

What diffuser are you getting? I'm selling a Lumiquest Pocket Diffuser I'm using the Nikon one that came with the sb 900 but I'm not satisfied with it. Maybe getting a Gary Fong diffuser but it's too pricy!

Your shots are amazing! I wanted a set of novatron but I don't wanna carry a power source for them so I went with flashes instead Great job bro!

I think you can still learn a lot more from the d40 - but if the d90 makes you feel better and you can afford it then why not? I'm just looking at your pictures and while they're nice I feel like they can be vastly improved upon not by your camera but more so by you.

^ I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong either. I've seen some people take really crisp and sharp images but mine tend to be faded. I try to manually set my Fn and shutter speeds but sometimes, the auto-mode comes out better. (annoying!!) Any pointers would be appreciated.

well i think the biggest issue is you need to not only learn your cameras setting but learn what camera you own cause those were taken with a canon 10D not a nikon d70 lol

Best bet is to use Aperture priority. Set your ISO to 200 if its daytime with plenty of light. Choose the aperture setting you want (low f stop like 3.5 if you want the background to be blurred or high f stop like 11 if you want everything to look sharp). Focus on the subject and check the shutter speed. If shutter speed is above 1/100 then you are good to go (rule of thumb is shutter speed should be higher number than your zoom, so if your zoom is set to 150mm, then your shutter speed should be at least 1/150 or higher). Use tripod if your shutter speed gets to below your zoom. If shutter speed say HI then its too bright out and you will need to increase your f-stop/ lower your ISO. Hope that helps

What's funny is that I use that same D70 and the same lens 18-70mm (mine is Sigma) to take these pics:

You just gotta learn your camera.

it's true why would you say you took them w/ that camera????
Exif IFD0

* Camera Make = Canon
* Camera Model = Canon EOS 10D
* Picture Orientation = normal (1)
* Interoperability Index = (0)
* Y-Resolution = 180/1 ===> 180
* X/Y-Resolution Unit = inch (2)
* Last Modified Date/Time = 2009:06:29 17:03:20
* Y/Cb/Cr Positioning (Subsampling) = centered / center of pixel array (1)

Either way learn your Canon, use it, read photography articles and what not and you'll see it will pay off...
