I'm in a debate between which lens I want; I sort of want the nikkor 10-24, but i also like the usefulness of the nikkor 16-85mm or the 18-200mm. I shoot mostly landscape, cars, and some indoors.. I already have the standard 18-55kit lens and a 35mm f/1.8 for indoors / low light.. what would you guys recommend? btw I have a D40.

18-200 would be the most well rounded among all your listings above given your shooting requirements. I would say sell your 18-55 and get 18-200. After that you can get wideangle if you feel that you need wider lens.

The thing about the 16-85 which i prefer over the 18-200 is that most people say it is a sharper lens.. which is actually my number one priority, just want to hear inputs on the two lenses here

Decide on what focal length works best for your style, decide on a budget and the see what you can do. But remember much of what you see depends more on the person behind the camera than the body and the lens.

^^agree. the difference in sharpness is pretty much negligible I think for these 2 lenses. The 18-200 is a great all around lens and the one to get if you only have one lens. Ive gotten pretty good pictures in my 18-200 that I hardly use my 50mm 1.8 unless I need the low light or very shallow DOF.

Ok guys, hope you can help me out...
I just recently re-started using my d40... been a couple of months since I've used her..
Well I using her for a class project when out of nowhere, it wouldn't shoot and I started getting a light meter error.
I switched to Manual, so I could control everything, and it still wouldn't shoot unless I held the AE-L/AF-L button... so I thought may be the settings were screwed up, so I just reset the whole camera... but that didn't even work.
Anybody have a clue to what might be the problem?

Looking to purchase a tripod for my d3000. i'm a noob in photography and i'm looking to pick up a tripod. Best buy sells some tripods made by Dynex. They seem cheap ($40 for a 60" tripod). Can anyone shed any info on tripods for me? I will most likely use the tripod for outdoor use - scenery, cars, landscapes... things of that nature.

I'm selling off my 18-35mm and 50mm f1.4 to fund the 24-70mm f2.8. I'm almost tempted to sell my 70-200mm f2.8 VR since I'll use the 24-70mm mostly for studio work. That telephoto is such a beast that I can only use it outdoors. And even then I'm moving to more secluded / harsher terrains and cannot use such long focal length (cliffs, sand dunes, etc). But Nikkor pro telephotos are so sweet I can't bring myself to selling it.
Now if only Nikon releases the D700x so I can get 24.5 megapixels for my fashion work!

I was doing some research and realized that tripod from best buy is not that good. I was recommended a tripod by Dolica. I have read some reviews and the general consensus is that they make a pretty good tripod. Here is the one i'm considering. It seems to have everything i need, being a beginner. Anyone have any experience with this company?
