A friend of mine got a D90 about a month ago and really likes it. I wouldn't worry about initial worries abou the complexity, afterall with digital practicing is free. It's no issue to work your way through the manual taking pictures as you go so you can learn how it all works.

I'm planning on getting a D90 Body soon. I need to decide on lenses. At first I had wanted to get the 18-200mm Lens, but apparantly the large zoom makes the pictures not as great. So now I am thinking about the 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I'm more interested in quality of photos. Not really "convenience".

uhmm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but an exposure is an exposure and the relationship is always the same given the same condition. Are you sure that the other photographer is not taking the picture when the sun was covered by a cloud or something?
Anyways, if you really want to darken the ground, you can always underexpose the picture, and then do a dodge on the car only. I would think that is faster than your method now...

well thats how its done in PS. I dont see how filters can help you much in this case. If you dont want to PS it then you gotta increase the exposure on the car while keeping the others constant. One way is to use external light/flash.

upgraded to a D800 and love it very much. The pictures are super sharp and ISO performance are par none. I got a 50mm 1.4 prime, 24-70 2.8 and 12-24 2.8 to go with it. Couldn't be happier. I'm looking to sell the Nikon 12-24 2.8 to go with a 16-35 f4 Nikon lens. Anyone got that to trade? Shoot me a PM if you do.

Nice! I was looking at a D800 the other day, but had to remind myself new glass would be better - I've had my eye on a 17-55 2.8 for a while but have been hesitant with pulling the trigger.

I shoot with a D800 as well. Here is two shots from yesterday at Atlanta Motorsports Park
Both were shot natural light, Lambo with the Nikon 18-35mm 3.5-4.5 and the one of my Z was with the Nikon 50mm 1.8 prime.
