Default And Off We Go To Democracy European Style

http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArti...781&type=right
In the European Union, government spending has declined slightly, from 48% to 47% of GDP during the last 10 years. In the U.S., it has shot up from 34% to 40%.

I hope this scares people, sometimes it's easier to understand a situation when we have something to compare it to. Health care is even worst, the current debate in America is how do we get it to everyone but we should be more worried about making it cheaper and more effective.

http://assets.opencrs.com/rpts/RL34175_20070917.pdf
According to OECD data, the United States spent
$6,102 per capita on health care in 2004 — more than double the OECD average and
19.9% more than Luxembourg, the second-highest spending country. In 2004, 15.3%
of the U.S. economy was devoted to health care
, compared with 8.9% in the average
OECD country and 11.6% in second-placed Switzerland.

We spend so much money on health care partly because it's a hybrid socialized/privatized system. You've got the government creating artificial demand which drives up costs in the privatized system. Then you add thick layers of regulation on top of that and voila.

No progressive politician or group thinks the issue with healthcare is simply getting universal coverage. That is what Mitt Romney did and why he is failing.

There are established points they are seeking to achieve:

- high-quality care, universal coverage
- not tied to a job
- affordable for individuals and families
- affordable for society

(i.e. medicare)

So, you basically are wrong on what you think the current debate or public policy concerns are. Why would Obama put into the stimulus plan money for electronic record keeping modernization if you think they are so myopic?
