Default Obama's International Diplomacy Skills

UK vs. USA

The Prime Minister gave Obama an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet and a first edition of a seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill vs A box set of 25 Classic American Films.

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

I saw that article too . Ms. Brown gave the Obama girls expensive dresses and some books that are not out yet.

Michelle gave the Brown boys to model Marine 1 helicopters...

I thought Browns gift of the Pen holder, and the fact that it was made from the wood of a former anti-slave ship was very meaningful. The 25 DVD collection is just a slap in the face, and most of the movies are not ones you would want to own.... Does Obama think they don't have movies over there???

I'm sure Obama picked this all out himself- staff does not take care of things like this at all.

You guys are really digging down to the bottom of the barrel for your jabs at this administration. If this was one year ago, there would be so much fingerpointing and jovial laughter at the Bush-haters nitpicking about things that don't matter.

No sir, we are not digging down low at all. How our President treats encounters with the leaders of other countries is of the utmost importance. I thought Obama was going to restore our image in the world view??? So you are saying that Obama delegated the task of getting the Browns a gift, and felt it was not important to properly welcome the Prime Minister of one of our allies, and also has chosen such dunce and thoughtless aids that they cannot come up with any thing other than a bunch of DVDs...???

So what you are saying is we should not worry about how Obama treats our friends, and that Obama has surrounded himself with idiots...

You liberals nit picked Bush to death, when he choked on a pretzel, could not open doors, mispronounced words... You and you liberal media friends were all over it! So sit back and enjoy the show. WE are going to give BO the same fair treatment you guys gave Bush the last 8 years. Except BO probably won't be elected after ruining the country. So we have to condense 8 years of jokes into 4 years...

Did anyone else see what Hilary did today too? This administration will make us the laughing stock of the world...
Quote:
GENEVA—After promising to “push the reset button” on relations with Moscow, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton planned to present Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a light-hearted gift at their talks here Friday night to symbolize the Obama administration’s desire for a new beginning in the relationship.

It didn’t quite work out as she planned.

She handed him a palm-sized box wrapped with a bow. Lavrov opened it and pulled out the gift—a red plastic button on a black base with a Russian word “peregruzka” printed on top.

“We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” Clinton said as reporters, allowed in to observe the first few minutes of the meeting, watched.

“You got it wrong,” Lavrov said, to Clinton’s clear surprise. Instead of "reset," he said the word on the box meant “overcharge.”

Clinton and Lavrov guffawed. “We won’t let you do that to us,” she said.

1. Please dispense with the "you liberals" crap. You don't know the views of half the people you think you do. Just because they disagree with you doesn't mean their allegiances lie within the boundaries of your little label.

2. After Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, and the Iraq debacle in general, giving a diplomat some ill-chosen DVDs isn't exactly an international incident

Please give me an example of nitpicking along these same lines when it came to the last administration.

3. Don't you think it's a little stupid to take on the "WELL YOU DID IT NOW WE ARE GOING TO" stance when you were saying that it was stupid when your opponent did the same thing?

You're basically acting exactly like the people that you condemned for acting like an ass. Only now you're bitter, so you'd like to spread your dissatisfaction any way you can by grasping and pushing nonissues as "news".

It's amazing how shallow some people can be.

The sad thing is that this thread isn't a joke.

I agree this is a gaffe. However, politicians give each other gifts all the time. I think it's safe to say Obama didn't pick out the gift and the aide didn't grasp the magnitude of the affair.

Funny? Yes. Newsworthy? Maybe on the Daily Show as a moment of zen.

I am not bitter nor am I taking anything out on anyone. I will not pass up a chance to laugh at our "Messiah" whenever he provides an opportunity.

I am not using petty behavior from the last eight years as excuse to do the same, I was merely stating that you should swallow your own pill and let people post what they want. People are going to ridicule the President regardless of who he is or what party he is from. People know who he is, so he is an easy target. And remember with such Diversity in America, we have someone for every action Obama carries out. Someone somewhere is bound to disagree with something he does. Let them voice their opinions.

If you don't want to hear about how Obama gave Brown 25 DVDs, don't click on the thread. If however, you feel you are the white knight that will bring the "truth" to all threads, I will not entertain your fantasy.

Thank you for addressing my points.

If this thread was made as some big joke to poke fun at Obama, I wouldn't care. The gaffe is funny. However, that is not the point of the OP nor of your serious responses. Don't act like you weren't trying to seriously take issue with this newsworthy item.

Since that's the case, I'm going to criticize you for egging on non-issues simply because you "won't pass up a chance" to make nothing into something.

What's it like being part of your gaggle of little giggling schoolgirls? Can I be part of it or are "liberals" not allowed?

This is an issue, HE HAS ZERO experience in International issues. Hillary's only experience is that she cashes her husband's checks from his International speeches. Has anyone notice that Russia has military presences in Cuba? Obama's response to Russia invading Georgia was leave it up to the UN and his response to Russia military presence in Cuba is end embargo with Cuba. The rest of the world likes him more then Bush is because every team loves the new rookie they can dick around.

This is hardly an issue. World leader give gifts to everyone, and I guarantee that most gifts aren't even kept. Most are probably given with the knowledge they're given out to friends or family members. Anyways, if Brown takes offense to this (and there's been no evidence he has) and uses this as a way to torpedo relations, then he's a petty fool who puts personal feelings over the welfare of a country and international relations, where people also take the time to insult each other.

Besides, what other gift are you going to give him from American culture? One of our big exports of our culture to the world is the movie industry. Brown might be an avid movie fan for all you know.

There's legit issues to bash Obama about, but this is pretty low on the totem pole.
