Generally I do not say “thank you.” I feel more comfortable with a direct eye contact and a thumbs-up.

Being that the vast majority of people who enlist do it because of the benefits and the fact that it's the best option out there to help them as individuals get ahead.. I'll keep my thanks to myself.
