I was very surprised to see on CNN yesterday video of the four Marines killed yesterday lying face down were they fell.
A camera crew got there before other Marines could get them back I suppose.
It made me think, "Why would anyone want to see this, should`nt they show some respect for the families?" One of they soldiers faces was blurred out, as to not reveal his identity.
But, I also thought maybe this is needed to show people the horrors of what war really is. People die. I think so many people have become numb or jaded as to what is happening.
It`s one thing to say on the news, "Four Marines were killed today." But to actually see them, made it seem so much more sad and tragic. I found it very upsetting to see.
I think if they want to show something to personalize those who died in combat it should be done with a photo provided by the family if they wish to have it aired.
Showing American bodies seems much more aligned towards an attempt to further some politcial viewpoint, rather than actually reporting the news IMHO.
Would you want someone to show your dead body on TV or print it in the paper? I wouldn't mind about mine.
Not that it's really possible, but if you want to get an idea of the numbers of American soldiers who have given their lives, take a gander at this:

Thus the reason the Bush administration has banned the photos of the flag draped coffins coming back from Iraq.
Jesse (thinks the administration is using ignorance of what's happening as a means of controlling public opinion)
It makes me uncomfortable personally, but then I'd rather they didn't show spiders either and that's not going to happen.
Pete (is squeamish)
