Just like Michael Moore, I decided to take poetic license with the title of 350ZSpeedRacer's thread "A new book about Michael Moore".
This is the trailer to the new movie "Michael Moore Hates America" which is supposed to come out later this summer/fall. As expected it's a takeoff on Moore's earlier movies, specifically "Roger and Me", but based on the "Fahrenheit 911/Ray Bradbury" discussion, Moore can't say too much about it.
From the website: Contrary to its title, Michael Moore Hates America isn’t a hatchet job on the filmmaker. It’s a journey across the nation where we meet celebrities, scholars and average folks alike, and we find out whether the American Dream is still alive! In the process, we’ll look at Michael Moore’s claims about the country, its people, and our way of life.
Like most people, I really don't have a problem with Moore's politics (come on, I live in Massachusetts...), but rather his continual distortion of the truth and his gross hypocrisy.
There's no audience for this, I haven't heard of it whatsoever and I work in a huge movie theatre. If anything this will open in small independently owned movie theatres, to minimal if any effect. Sorry man.
Micheal Moore started as a no name. The trailers look good and i wouldnt mind seeing it but, i agree that it probaly will bomb. I dont see any big movie theaters playing it. To bad though.
Its funny how some people have gotten really mad at this guy have threatened to kill him. He is filming this movie exactly the same why MM does.
"Roger & Me" was filmed on a shoestring budget ($160K vs $200K for MMHA) and directed by a complete "no name" (Michael Moore vs Michael Morris). The subject of the movie, Roger Smith (CEO of GM), is much less of a "household" name than Michael Moore is right now. Finally, I doubt that "Roger & Me" ever played at a "MEGA-Plex" as well.
Looking at these similarities, it will be very interesting to see how this movie does in comparison to "Roger & Me" which took in $6,706,369 at the box office.
Frankly, I was less than impressed with "Roger & Me" and barely made it through it. Somehow I completely missed the "Smashingly Funny", "Hysterical" and "Quick-Witted" parts I was looking forward to seeing and left with an image of a rabbit being skinned and feeling depressed. The one word I would use to describe MM after the movie was obnoxious.
The story of this movie is a little more intriguing to me. Michael Morris pretty much sold everything he had to make the movie. Judging solely on the two trailers, as well as the other information on the website, it appears to paint a positive picture of America (boo, hiss) and mixes in some interesting controversy with Michael Moore to tie the movie together.
Just like I spent my money to see "Roger & Me", I will spend my money to see this movie. I doubt that it will be reviewed/discussed by very many movie critics, newspapers, networks, etc. I also doubt that it will be nominated for any of the "Documentary" (yeah, riiiiiight...) award shows and will fail at the box office. But I also doubt it will be as "fictional" as MMs films have been.
