Default Micheal Moore: A Canadian view......

It made me laugh to see MM`s view of Canada. In "Bowling for Columbine" he speaks of the lack of gun violence. Well he did`nt come to Vancouver. In the downtown core here, people get shot all the time. I love the "slum" in Canada that was basically a middle class nieghbourhood. We have slums here that would rival anything from South Central to Harlem.
We have crack houses, gang violence, there is a town about 20 minutes away from Vancouver called Surrey that was NUMBER ONE in North America for auto theft per capita.
MM very much took advantage of the fact that most Americans know very little about Canada.
You would be amazed (sickened?) at how popular he is here.
When he was on his book tour here, He said he was embarrassed at how, as an American, he was so popular in Canada, and hated in his own country.
So, as a Canadian, I am here to tell you Canada ain`t the utopia
MM painted it out to be.

Well, that`s kind of true. If by "sucky" you mean because Canada chose not to join a war that turned out to be for nothing, then I guess yes, we are.
But, Don Cherry, a very patriotic Canadian celebrity said, "If one of your friends gets into a brawl in a bar, you don`t ask what it`s all about, you help your friend no matter what."
So I will agree Canada should have helped in some way.

Oh and on the word "aboot". I always find this very funny.
NOBODY HERE SAYS THAT WORD. I am 32 years old and have lived in just about every part of Canada, the second largest country in the world, and have yet to hear someone say "aboot"
True, we do say "eh" a lot and the excessive beer drinking is true.

The Molson Canadian ad sums it up best!

Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader....
I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled....
and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada,
although I'm certain they're really really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not a president.
I speak English and French, not American.
And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.
I believe in peace keeping, not policing,
diversity, not assimilation,
and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.
A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch,
and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!!

Canada is the second largest landmass!
The first nation of hockey!
and the best part of North America

My name is Joe!!
And I am Canadian!!!

It's considered domestic...

and it's brewed here by Labatt Breweries... so it tastes like Canadian beer, i.e., better.
