I just bought the 3M headlight restoration kit ($24 at Autozone). It comes with the 3000 grit pad and a lot of other things. The reason I purchased it is because I have scratches on my headlights. However, you can't feel the scratches from the outside so I'm assuming they are on the inside of the plastic?
Is there any way to buff them out if they are truly on the inside? Also, how would I know if they are on the inside instead of the outside (I realize this might be a stupid question to ask but I don't know how scratches would form on the inside of the plastic....heat perhaps?)

The insides will not be damaged unless someone had them apart at one point and abused them. The scratches you have are probably on the outside but so minor that you just cannot feel them. Sometimes you can look ALONG (or parallel to) the lens' curvature while your headlights are one. Many times you will see all of the scratches and verify which side they're on. Another thing you may be seeing is "crazing". They might look like tiny web-like cracks. This is caused by temp changes (mostly heat) being greater than what the plastic can withstand. I've seen one set of Z lights so severe, the cracks were half way through the thickness of the plastic. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Can you repair these cracks? Don't know if this is 'crazing' or just small cracks?
