Exclamation GT Motorsports: Upgraded APS TT, FCon Vpro, GTM Longblock

This car was built a little over a year and half ago. Over 8,000 miles on our GTM Stage 1 long block, still urning strong, and making good power. Car came in because it was having some smoking issues recently. The owner (Crom) decided to bring it in so we can diagnose the problem. Their were 2 possibilities, either a engine issue or a turbo problem. We did preform a compression and leak down check, everything was perfect, even the spark plugs showed signs of a good burning engine with no traces of oil.

We did send the turbos to get inspected, during the inspection it was determined that one of the seals had gone bad. The turbos could have been sent to APS to see if they would warranty them, but there was no idea on how long that could possibly take. With Crom knowing that we decided to have them rebuilt with a 2871R cartridge. Turn around time to get the turbos rebuilt was only 10 days so this was the fastest way to get the job done.

The turbos were changed, car was checked over, and then re-tuned. Car is running great just as the first day it left the shop, we hope Crom is happy!

Thanks Sam...totally appreciate all of your last minute checks and balances even though you were really stretched for time...the smoking during traffic going to hollywood during the day just got worse and worse, and i knew something was wrong. Your patience w/ this car has truly been tested over the past couple of years and its def been a long journey..I promise to stop modding it soon to give you some piece of mind. Thanks for everything....

Car looks amazing - nice work, great tune.

So what's the guess on why the turbo seal went bad? And is there anything done (can be done) to prevent it from happening again? Finally what's the cost of "cartridge replacement"?

Thanks.

I have no idea...I don't even push the car that hard...drive it a couple times a week w/ one track day...w/ this setup...as for the cost, it wasn't cheap..although I could have went the other route by sending them back to APS..but I wanted a car for the holidays and even then there was no guarantee that they would warranty them.

It was roughly the same...old setup was 545 at 13psi, new setup was 535 at 14psi...I think they were both 4th gear pulls but I could be wrong.

Crom, I had no idea that Z was yours. I absolutely love it!!! There were 2 Z's there that I absolutely fell in love with at first sight, yours and a Redline with Nismo V1 and Volk TE37 Time Attacks. Your car is absolutely gorgeous, and looks fawking mean/aggressive.

Congrats.

the video posted sounded like a 5th gear run which makes sense since that's the 1:1 ratio gear on 6MT's
