UT OH!!! MRC Does it again..TN Single 480whp..

We got to tune this beast today, and what a blast it was to tune and drive. This customer is a good friend of my new Tech,Oliver. The customer sourced several parts from us and did the install himself along with Oliver. In fact I was so impressed with Olivers work on this car and his brothers car, that I hired him on the spot 2 months ago.

This car is rocking a built bottom end with an off the shelf TN kit. The only mod done to the TN kit was they upgraded to dual 38mm WG with opened dumps, to eliminate the boost creep..I think it wound up hurting his boost in the long run as it would steady drop of an average of 1.5-2 psi at redline.

He also added an AEM meth kit for the high boost tune, hooked up to a turbo XS dual stage Boost controler that would default back to low boost if the meth stopped.

We tuned low boost at about 9-10 psi bleeding off to about 8, yeilding 428whp.

We then set our sites on the higer boost at about 13 psi, bleeding off to 11 psi..We think a better outlet on the turbo or better Boost controller would yeild better results. We noted the Meth makes a big difference on managing the timing issues and Air Intake temp issues, that Plauge Turbonetics kits..We were able to minimize any signs of knock, run higer boost levels and slightly leaner AF levels, with some moderate timing for a real smooth power curve...On low boost we commonly have to pull so much timing during peak spool up, that it negates any raising of the boost on these kits..

This car was previously tuned by a shop in NY on the UTEC, and was tuned VERY BADLY. They utilized a map sensor, but never turned on the Open loop fueling, and tuned the car on a MAF based tune. The car would idle and do WOT ok, but anything inbetween was not drivable and would not rev past 4500 rpms without dumping fuel..We fixed that with all new parameters and maps, and within a few hours the customer was grinning ear to ear, that his car made some sick power, and was once again drivable..
Total build time....1 week...

that is awsome Julian ... the meth and injections are my next step. i recently fixed the overboostin issue and coming back for a 7psi tune until i build. 409.9whp @8psi is a little crazy for me. that is an awsome looking engine bay. i know you not a fan of the tn kit but some of us are not fans of twins for some strange reason lol. LOV the work man keep it up.

Actually the meth does help, but the biggest part is the tuner and his/her ability to take all the information that he/she can gather on the car, and find each particular car's shortfalls and strong points. Simply taking a bullheaded approach with a know it all attitude does no one any good, one must be open and look at totality of the circumstances at hand. Simply turning up the boost on a bigger turbo works sometimes, but not all of the time..

I personally have looked at all the information I can gather on the TN kits and realized its big downfall was:

A: extremely high AIT by the 2nd dyno pull, averaging 58 Celcius..(an average APS or Greddy AIT is around 45 tops)

B: Hot air = Detonation/knock

C: Restrictive exhaust

D: notorious boost creep

Once a tuner looks at all the feedback the car gives him/her, the tuner can then come up with a plan of attack. IMHO simply turning up the boost on the TN kits is a FATAL FLAW..One must deal with the CONS first before he can reap the benifiets of the PROS. In this situation, METH is the only viable and safe solution to making decent power on pump gas.

As a matter of fact, I feel race gas alone will not solve the issues related to AIT's and heat soak. The meth actually cooled the AIT's to mid 40's celcius as I was spraying it, When I got off the throttle the metered idle air went right up to 50-58 celcius. This is a result of the design of the kit and intake piping..

Thank You for everyone kind words

Nice work! I can't wait to see what you guys do with my car here shortly.

I seems like the PL kit places the turbo farther away from the engine, so I hope heat soak is less of an issue. Do vented hoods help at all or are they really not all that functional?

I guess my car might be down a little longer so we can source a better exhaust...I don't think the Nismo is going to cut it.

Vented hood helps, but even if you dont have one you got nothing to worry about.... the widebody G runs with a gt37r and no vented hood and no issues at all. Id still check with julian regarding what he suggests you for cooling mods though.

Great Job Julian!

I see a nitrous solenoid in the intake. Do you plan on going for more HP?

Edit: I think they are using it for the meth injection.

What supporting mods is this TN car running?

Quick-I am using the GReddy radiator and a Nismo low temp thermostat (which I just realized was the wrong one yesterday and had to re-order...f&^k). Julians suggested the GReddy over the Koyo. I did not buy the Oil cooler...yet. I will when I build....if i ever have the money

Is the braided line that goes into the Kinetix plenum(left side of pic) where the meth sprays...I wonder if this car sprays meth and N2O to get those whp results. The N2O kit is definately a ZEX kit.

yeah, either radiator will be fine.... i woudl probably get the oil cooler over the thermostat, but neither is critical, the greddy radiator will be sufficient.
