Default Blown motor??? If so, time to build.

So i blew my motor last night i was thinking about buying this shortblock. I have a 04.5 motor. i dont know if its a revup or not but i have a turbonetics kit on there also. It says its good to 650whp. Im only gonna push about 500whp and ill be happy. Does the crank need to be upgraded as well?

also, before contacting the shop, will this work with a 04.5 ecu and tranny. i know i sound like a newbie but im still learning about vq motors.

Thanx alot guys. Please no flaming. I need a new motor asap.

Thats plenty engine for a turbonetics build, just be sure to use some good headgaskets - the HKS or Cosworths.

I would add the ARP main studs as well as they seem to be an option with that shortblock package.

Yes that engine will work fine with your ecu and trans.

The crank is good for way more HP then a TN kit can throw at it, so dont worry about that.

alright so today i pulled the plug and let me tell you why vq35 motors are so homo. I had to take off the intake manifold just to check plugs.

but anyways, i found oil in cylinder number 3 and 6. not alot of oil to where it would soak the plugs but enough to where it puddled in the middle of the piston dimple.

and im not a tech or nothing but no way in hell is a plug supposed to be like this, is it? lol

you don't have to take off the intake manifold to change spark plugs. Also, is your valve cover leaking oil ? You might have a bad valve cover (the part where it seals around the spark plugs).

hey whats up andrew.

ya but there was way too much wires running around. Besides, this gave me a chance to look down the plug holes.

and a leaking valve cover doesnt have anything to do with oil on pistons or white plugs.

Right, if oil was on the tops of the plugs and pooled in those recesses in the valve covers, you might have a bad valve cover. But oil on the top of the piston is either coming up past the rings or down from the heads.

The color of the spark plug in that picture is textbook for a cylinder that is burning oil.

ya, it deff sounds like a piston ring that went to hell, literally.

tomorow, just to make sure it is what it is, im gonna do a compression test and a leakdown to make sure it really is fuked up before i pull the motor.

Im just scared to pull the motor on this car. I have done 2 swaps in my life but they were in a s2000 and in those cars, there is so much room and so much less wires, it took me 1 hr to take out safely.

this motor is so tightly fit, i feel claustrophobic.

This motor is easy. You can take off the front bumper support thing as well so nothing in the front will be in the way. There is also a guide i believe in the how to section. don't worry, it will be just as easy as the s2k. Like most cars, the process of taking out the engine is mostly the same.

well one reason could be because they have a cor charge of 750 bucks. Most places dont want a core so they charge more to purchase another.

alright guys. this is what i found today doing compression test

1. 155
2. 163
3. 120 (alert)
4. 165
5. 155
6. 170

Alright so this means in Cylinder 2, i have bad piston rings, correct? or can it mean something else.

unfortunately, i dont have a leakdown tester to verify this.

It could mean rings, valves, etc. Since you're burning oil I'd be leaning more towards rings though. Put some oil in the cylinder and run the compression test again (this is a wet compression test). If the numbers go up, rings it is.
