NEW YORK (AP) - NBA owners have approved the Seattle SuperSonics' move to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season, pending the resolution of litigation between the team and the city of Seattle.
The Sonics could begin playing in owner Clay Bennett's hometown as early as next season if they can get out of the remaining two years of their lease at Key Arena.
Seattle has filed suit trying to force the Sonics to remain in the city until the lease expires in 2010, while Bennett wants to buy out the remainder. The trial is set to begin June 16.

Free money for Seattle! Bummer that they are moving, but OK showed that they have a good fan base that wants a team. There's no room in the SW division though.

They haven't proven to have a fanbase that will be there for the longterm and when the team sucks. New Orleans was the first NBA team that city got and people came out to see them. Then they started to play well with the addition of CP3 and people stayed to watch. You really think the fans would stay when Seattle comes in as one of the worst in the NBA? Their future isn't that bright when it comes to winning. I think the locals would eventually get tired of it.

They actually didn't play well when they were going to OK. They did not make the playoffs and had a losing record. They came alive this year. So who's not to say that that'll happen with the Seattle team? They have a great talent that just needs to mature, and a young team that also needs to mature. Only time will tell though.

I didn't say NO went to OK played well. I said people went to see them because it was new to them. To see an NBA game regardless if the "home" team sucks. Then the fans stuck around because they got better with CP3. I'm questioning how the local fanbase will support the team 10+ years down the line. Not just now or 5 years from now. I don't think many free agents would want to play for them. Live in a small midwest city or a big city where there's lots to do?
