had to do it cuz there were like 4 posts in a row here about the mavs. they need to get rid of pot smoking howard, soft ass ericKA dampier, old ass jason kidd, and playoff choke artist dirk nowitski
On paper, it seems like the Mavs DO have the talent.
Maybe it was a question of familiarity. Kidd was imported, and he really didn't have a chance to establish chemistry/rapport with his fellow teammates, learn their styles and vice versa. I don't regard him as THAT "old" (but Chris Paul will make ANYONE look "old" because he's s'damn quick!).
The same could be said for the Suns and Shaq. No chance to establish patterns (although they could have used Marion's defense, and it showed).
In fact, these trades were made to off-set the Gasol trade to the Lakers, the only ONE trade of the three that has proven beneficial (but I mean...come on...they got rid of FRIGGIN' KWAME BROWN!).
Or maybe it was the coaching? Cuban fired AJ to "fix" that, though.
Pot-smoking and Eric-Dirty-Playing-Dampier aside, it would appear that the Mavs possessed the requisite talent to advance much farther than another first round exit.
agreed they have talent on paper but heres my break down
kidd is a great player. 1st ballot HOF hands down. but he is a coach killer. he got byron scott fired in favor of lawernce frank. hes also showing his age can couldnt check paul
howard damaged his trade value by admitting to pot use and then showing like he smoked pot before every game this series. in terms of his play, he reminds me of sean elliot. decent outside shot but needs to drive to the hole to be successful.
dirk is a choke artist. he didnt deserve an mvp last year. that mavs will never win with him as the 1st option. kinda like gasol in memphis. the mavs need to get one superstar who wants the ball in crunch time and can make plays. someone like a billups or arenas.
ericka dampier is the biggest bust in the league. hes a fatter version of kwame brown.
the bench is old. stackhouse, eddie jones, juwan howard?
the only positives on this team is jason terry and brandon bass IMO. bass is a beast. i can see him emerging next year kinda like lamarcus aldridge did this year.
i wonder how the teams would do if kidd, howard, and dampier was traded for nash, hill, shaq. imma try that tonite on nba sk8 lol
I really think it boils down to their style! The Nuggets, Mavs and Suns will never win a Championship with that "lets outscore them" mentality! At least the Suns are addressing the problem with a pressence in the middle!
