Im going to make this short and simple. Jordan, no matter the the series or team, was never held in check . These are the times you should compare both. And obviously there's no comparo!
^He never faced a team like Boston
The best defense he faced in the finals was DET. with a 6'3 guy guarding him in man coverage....Get off MJ's High Horse

Detroit is in the east, he couldnt have faced them in the finals. Plus, he faced Detroit, Indianapolis, The Heat and the Knicks just to get to the finals. I would place their defense in their eras as better than the Celtics, no doubt. Also, that 6'3 guy was Joe Dumars and the Celtics have no one that could hold his jock at defending the 2 guard position.

More phyical for sure, but i wouldn't say BETTER...but as far as containing the best player in the world zone>man.
Kobe is the most double+ teamed perimiter player in the history of the game.
I donno people seem to think that just because deffense was more physical and hand-checking was allowed that defenses were better, when really they are more advanced nowadays especially at containing a teams star players.

Do you honestly believe Kobe is more doubled than MJ? Honestly, we cant know for sure, but I cant imagine anyone being more double teamed than Jordan. As for zone being greater than man at containing people, i respectfully disagree. If you can be guarded, man will always shut you down worse than zone. If you can't be guarded, it doesnt matter what they do. If the pistons, knicks, heat or pacers played in todays NBA:
a-none of their players would make any money after the fines
b-they'd never complete a game due to fouling out
c-there'd be a lot of "superstars" crying to the media

Toodles,
you're talking to a bunch of kids who never saw the real Michael Jordan play.. all they know is Michael on the Wizards..
Kobe isn't half the player Michael Jordan is.. he can't even make his team mates better..

considering zone is legal now and most teams use it against the Lakers YES

Of course it does, with zone(if executed corectly) you cannot blow by defenders/or get off a high percentage shot, with man it is 100% easier to do, you don't have diff guys collapseing with every mose you make

No they would not, so your saying they would have complete dissreguard for association rules? I don't think they would be that stupid!

What do you mean.
The early 90's:
Knicks
Detroit
Pacers
Rockets
Jazz
Bulls
etc....
would have handed the Celtics their azz! Yes, the Celtics do have a nice team. Im not taking that away from them. But Jordan in his time, was never on lock. IMO, Jordan had it rough! Teams back then where more defensive oriented and more aggressive.

Dude, just because there wasnt a "legal" zone, doesnt mean people didnt use a form of zone. Also, as soon as MJ touched the ball, 80% of the time a 2nd and sometimes 3rd defender was moving towards him. He was double teamed on nearly every play.

MJ was doubled on nearly every play. Once you have the ball, the other team could double/triple/quadruple/quintuple team you if they wished. They "wished" when MJ had the ball. Zones play soft on the perimeter, thus you get more semi open looks. Man, you have someone in your grill as much as they can be. Plus with MJ, when he beats the man up defender, every other player on the opposing team is watching and ready to help.

Youre being obtuse here. Im saying that if their defense was called like the NBA is called today, theyd all be gone by the end of the 2nd quarter.
