First athlete to reach a Billion!!!!!

Why is this man smiling? Because in the time it takes you to read this sentence, he's just made $20. And again. And again. A torrential flood of money, pouring straight into the bank account of one Tiger Woods.

A new Forbes report reveals that Woods is on track to become the world's first billionaire athlete by 2010. That, friends, is nothing short of astonishing. We all know about billionaires who've made their money through skyrocketing IPOs or entrepreneurial sellouts -- shoot, I'm one, aren't you? -- but for Woods to make his billion through nothing but paychecks is pretty damn amazing.

[UPDATE: Some reports have Michael Schumacher as the world's first billionaire athlete, as of 2005. No idea why Forbes didn't mention that.]

But a billion is such an abstract number. Let's break that down. Tiger is on pace to make about $100 million this year between endorsements and winnings, even considering the fact that he won't play in another tourney. $100 million a year equals $273,972 a day. $11,415.53 an hour. $190 a minute. He earns three dollars and seventeen cents per second. That means, hypothetically speaking, if Tiger was walking up the fairway in a tournament and saw a $10 bill lying there, he'd make more money by walking right past it.

Does he deserve that money? Hell yes, he does; he makes far more than that for other people and corporations. Is it right that he deserves that money? Well, that's the foundation of a capitalistic society, isn't it? Like it or not. (Yes, teachers and doctors deserve more, but they don't get it.) So, bottom line: If you don't think Tiger deserves to be rich, you're a communist. Plain and simple.

Hey, Tiger? Next time we go out, none of that "I can't find my wallet" nonsense. Not when we know you can buy the restaurant, dude.

Wow, I bet he's not complaining anymore about the hours upon hours of practicing when he was little one.

You are one of those anti-Capitalist. If you were good at golf and could make millions, I bet you wouldn't make that comment. But you aren't, so that is that.

Props to Tiger Woods. It is not like the man hasn't worked for what he has. He may play sports, but he lives and breaths golf like no other athlete lives/breaths their sport.

Well at least for Michael he could die in his sport on any given race so I less of a problem with him getting to the billion dollars.

The people who are paying them seem to think so. And apparently, they're worth it, because if they weren't, they would have stopped a long time ago.

I'm sure if any athlete gets a contract like Tiger did from Nike, they to would be on there way to a billion.

Tiger deserves it. He is the text book definition of an all out athlete (Unlike a lot of golfers who are lazy and overweight).

I guarantee that I could beat(or I am better than) Tiger woods in the following:

Running (1 mile or less)
Swimming (any stroke any distance)
Boxing
MMA
Basketball
Baseball
Football
Skiing (snow and water)
Tennis
Lacrosse
Volleyball
Shooting
Archery
Badmiton
Auto racing
Ping Pong (hey, you are including golf)
Foosball (see above)
Tons of other things

He's not a great athlete. Certianly not an 'all out athlete (lol)' He's good at golf.

Yeah, but he has the mentality to take that one thing he's good at and be the best. That's a "PRO" athlete in my book.

He deserves it

Rappers and 80% of sport athletes don't deserve their money.

i find it ironic that tiger makes more in endorsements than he ever will winning tournaments. i would say out of that 100 million a year (stated above) he only makes 10 million combined winnings in tournaments. that means 90 million in endorsements....that is f'n crazy....just for being good at golf. many of these companies who are paying out endorsement monies to tiger don't even have to do with golf....go figure

Tiger won 3 events this season on the PGA Tour alone, and he made $4.68 Million. That doesn't include additional money he has won from other tournaments this year outside the PGA.

Last year he made $8.55 Million from 6 events, not including the money he won for winning the fedex cup or any other events outside the PGA Tour.
