Best owner in sports?

A few months ago, I posted a 'worst owner in sports' poll so this now is the other side of the coin.

I'd vote for Mike Illitch. Not only is he hands off but he employs some capable people, i.e., GM Ken Holland, and unlike other cheapskate owners, he's more than willing to spend the vast revenue he generates on the team to make it better. This is the biggest reason why the Red Wings are arguably the most dominant franchise in North American sports.

The Maloof's (Sac King's). They do alot of good for the community. Lots of charity stuff. Plus, The Palm's kicks ass.

Yeah, okay to the Steinbrenners. If you think "you do as I say even though I know nothing about baseball" and "I will sign ___ 40 yr old to a $15 mil deal" is being the best owner in sports, you are mistaken.

Yeah, the money earned is secondary to spending the earnings "in the area". That makes a good owner. Spend the money to win, not field an "almost winner".

When Moreno bought the Angels he lowered the beer, hot dog and ticket prices then fielded a "World Series" winner. Since he bought the team we have been there EVERY year, and we're there again. Fun as hell to be an angel fan since 81. We also have the best Manager in baseball and EVERYONE knows it....

Mario Lemieux- The way he has managed to sign that team this off season and keep the big three alone is amazing. (sid, malkin, MAF) especially at signing them to the long term deals. When the cap keeps going up in the next few seasons he wont be shelling out 40 million for 3 guys killing his chances of having a cup worthy team.
