2008 Summer Olympic Games Thread

I know there is a thread for the US basketball team already, but I figure we might as well have one for the other events. As soon as NBC coverage starts we can start posting up the best clips here.

The Opening Ceremony is already finished, but unfortunately NBC will not be showing it until 7:30 tonight. If anyone finds a video please post it up.

Here is a preview video of some areas hosting some of the games.

Yeah Holden scored the only point in the game early in the second half otherwise scoreless game. Lots of pushing and shoving going on and little calls by the ref's. Great game. From what they were saying last night, the Netherlands are the team to beat.

Shot put is a crazy event. I remember in high school doing it and that ish is hard. Major arm strength.

Wow. That opening intro was purely fantastic. As a pure athlete myself, seeing some clips of the athletes training, the opening ceremony, must've been very emotional. To win a gold medal means you're the absolute best in the world at that event. That's huge!!!!!

Agreed, that opening was spectacular. There will be nothing else like it for quite some time... also considering they spent far money money on it than any other nation.

I just posted in another thread about how amazed I was re: opening ceremony.

Just one bit of unnerving realism...when the small costumed children (who were all smiling and waving) handed off the Chinese national flag, they passed it onto some pretty serious-looking military dudes.

They were most definitely NOT smiling and waving, but were in fact, goose-stepping.

I was thinking, "Hmmm...kind of a weird choice for imagery transition..."

omfg
NO WONDER...Zhang Yimou has been the genius behind it.
He directed...
-Curse of the Golden Flower
-House of Flying Daggers
-Hero

Nearly two years in the making, the man behind the spectacle is acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou

THE CHINESE HAS DESTROYED ALL OPENING CEREMONIES, I DON'T KNOW HOW ANY COUNTRY IS GONNA TOP WHAT I JUST SAW.

I'm not even interested in the Olympics.

Yeah the goose-steppers were a little creepy, although I do note that they were in sync, which for a long time Chinese military guys really weren't.

As for the opening ceremony itself, those drummers, the electric guys, and the taichi performers. Wow.

So that's what Zhang Yimou can do with $40B and endless human resources.
