Who's paying the judges?
OK, seriously... I'm watching the woman's all-around gymnastics right now, and somebody has GOT to be paying off the judges. I watched Shawn Johnson make two small mistakes (one balance check and one out of position) on the beam and scored a low 9's for execution. When Jiang went, she had several balance checks, including one on her freakin' mount. She got the exact same score for execution. WTF!!!
Earlier, Nastia and Yang both had near flawless performances on the uneven bars. The only mistakes I saw was that neither of them stuck the landing. They both had the same starting score too. Yet somehow Yang scored higher. WTF!!! RECOUNT!!! EDIT: Take that, China!!! Gold and Silver, Bishes!!!

I'm not getting the scoring in the individual all-around. Is it make more mistakes and score higher or is it going with the judge's favorite?

My brother, a divI gymnastics coach, and former gymnast, doesn't like the judging at all. Not in any US meets, international meets, etc. He says it has hurt the sport, blah blah. Just saying though. Scoring changed for this years olympics, and every gymnast I know hates the change.

Unfortunately, with the new scoring or the old, gymnastics has a lot of subjectivity involved in scoring. Unlike basketball or any other sport that has goals that can be counted, you can never accurately score gymnastics. The same judge could watch the exact same routine five or six different times and get five or six different scores. I say institute full-contact gymnastics. Last one standing wins.

Those scores last night, especially Shawn Johnson's, were ludicrous. Still, gold and silver aren't bad but somebody really needs to look into what is going into the judging and scoring.

They should make their deductions and the reason for it documented.
Then have it available online... in real time. Then have the judge's face, name, address and bank statement right next to it LOL. |

WHAT THE FREAK IS GOING ON?????
I just got through watching the women's individual vault final and yet again, America gets screwed. Alicia Sacramone landed two great vaults but finished fourth behind a Chinese gymnast who made two HUGE mistakes on her vault (stumbling badly on the landing and landing out of bounds) yet SHE STILL SCORED HIGHER! BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY! At least this time, the Chinese had the good sense to send a girl out who at least looked 16 years old. On a side note, the announcers revealed that on nbc.com, after Michael Phelps, Alicia Sacramone is the second most searched athlete on the site. Not a shocker...

Think that's bad? What about the "tie-breaker" that gave China's He the gold on the uneven bars over Liukin even though their scores were identical?
