Usain Bolt!!

My goodness! This man is incredible! I'm a huge fan of track and field (used to run the 100m and 4x100 relay myself) and this kid is a freak. I remember back in 96' when we thought Donavan Bailey was fast, but Bolt just takes it to another level.

Yes, Bolt is fast as fuk! Speaking of Donavan Bailey, what ever happens to these guys that dont have major sponsors? Do they go to work like the regular folk?

Probably. But those that are talented probably won't need to go back. They interviewed Dix after his 200m heat and asked him about this I believe. He only had a coach and his family with him and didn't have any sponsors either to pay for other stuff. He's doing really well so I am sure he will pick them up later on in his career. I hope he medals in the 200m also.

So Bolt won his 200m semi w/ 20.09. They say he shut it down again. After that 100 performance, I'd figure he could go after the 200m record too. But after looking up Michael Johnson's mark (19.32), maybe that will be a little more difficult to do. Looks like his personal best in the 200 is 19.67. I'm curious when Bolt shut it down in the heat and the type of effort he exerted.

Speaking of Michael Johnson and an earlier mention of Donovan Bailey, I was crushed when Johnson {cough} pulled up {cough} w/ a bad hammy in that 150m race after the 1996 Olympics. I bought into all the hype of Johnson being the World's Fastest, but Bailey surprised me (and Johnson too). I decided not to sleep on Bailey anymore.

I'm not a good judge of distance but Bolt deff pulled up and cruised last night in the 200m. That along with how fast the track is in Beijing, makes me think that Johnson's record will be broken. Watch out for Walter Dix though, he looked strong also.

It took him 41 steps to complete the 100m. It takes everyone else 44

I don't know what I saw last night, a quarterfinal or the semi, but Dix did look good in his heat. The only problem was that he looked to start cruising but then had to turn it back on again at the end b/c several others were about to pass him. He should be a contender for silver or bronze.

^ For sure. The other American (I forget his name) looked smooth in his heat also. Maybe a Jamaica, U.S.A, U.S.A, finish?

Yeah, I believe it was confirmed that MJ faked it in order to have an excuse. If Usain does that stupid showboating like he always does he's not going to come close to beating 19.32.

Yeah, if he goes all out and w/ the fast track that Tyler mentioned, I believe he could get it. I just think he'll be so far ahead that he'll dial it down like the 100. This time it could backfire and cost him the WR. It will be the "I told you so" moment for announcers and Bob Costas.

I dont hink he is fast enough in the 200 to break the record. That mark is unreal!!!! He has to take off three tenths of his personal best to break it, that is a lot in that race!

+1. Have you ever seen what U.S. sprinters in the past act like? (Maurice Green)

Bolt entertains well, he does not showboat. As long as you are as fast as he is, then you can do whatever you want.

The WR thing is not important to him, it may be to us, but not to him. He wants gold for his country. I can respect that a lot.

I wonder if the fact that HE does not own the 200m world record could motivate him to run it through?? I would like to see him get it.

As much as I was a fan of Johnson, I would like to see it broken too. Breaking it would be crazy. 19.32? Are you serious?! It seems like the 100 record is broken every year (I'm exaggerating a little), but hasn't the 200 been hard to sniff since Johnson did it in '96? Bolt is not going to take the story of the Olympics away from Phelps, but he has to be story number 2 if he gets the 200 mark, right?

^^ Of for sure! He has been my favorite part of the Olympics so far. I'm kinda burned out on Phelps. I mean he's great and all, but if there were 20 different ways you could run 200m, then Bolt would win all of them too. I think the media has been forgetting what Bolt might do. He could break world records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 relay!

I was a huge MJ fan as well (gold shoes FTW) but I would like to see Bolt break the record.
