It's easy to underrate the physical exertion and demands here. Of course, some people believe that anything that has a subjective component, such as gymnastics or ice skating, is not a "real sport". But many people would still consider those sports, and cheer leading is kind of like team gymnastics.
I read an article about 2 weeks ago, talked about a significant percentage of school sports related injuries were from cheerleading, particularly back injuries.
Getting dropped or missed from some of the heights they get into, landing on the hard floor with no protective pads or equipment, thatz gotta hurt.
