What do you think of Floridas Brandon Spikes suspension?
I honestly think he got off too easily. Only 1/2 a game? This was a totally unnecessary attack and IMO it needs to be longer he could have seriously hurt this player.
1/2 a game suspension is straight up BS!!!!!! I think this is almost as bad as the Blunt incident (Oregon/ BYU) at the begining of the year. The NCAA needs to step in. This really pisses me off. The SEC is getting out of hand with its protection of Florida. Refs had to be suspended for blatent wrong calls protecting them ;once the national media made it a story.
if it was a real opponent he wouldnt be suspended at all. The fact that theyre playin Vandy... he'll only play half the game anyway. Typical gator garbage...

It's not even a suspension. Seriously on 1 half of a game? He is only calling it a suspension to make it sound like a real punishment. He should have to sit out for AT LEAST a couple games. I saw earlier a video of it, and one comment suggested he be charged with assault or something along those lines. But hey, Urban Meyer shouldn't take any disciplinary action that would jeopardize his season right? Tebow apparently said “I don’t think that we did anything in that game that they didn’t do.” So apparently it was ok.

ATHENS, Ga. -- A most unlikely person came to the defense of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was suspended for half a game for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey.
Ealey said Tuesday he doesn't believe Spikes should have been suspended.
In fact, Ealey seemed surprised the play from Saturday's game drew so much attention.
. . .
Ealey says he doesn't agree with those who have said the suspension was not stiff enough.
"That really didn't matter to me," Ealey said of the suspension. "That's their decision. He shouldn't, I think, get suspended at all. We were just out there playing football."
Ealey said he had his eyes closed when Spikes stuck his hand in his helmet and he wasn't hurt.
"He really didn't gouge my eyes," Ealey said. "He really didn't get a chance to get close to my eyes."
The freshman said he believes similar incidents happen all the time.
"I'm pretty sure it goes on back and forth," he said. "We probably do it and other teams do too. It's all football. We're just out there trying to have fun."
This incident is way worse than the Blount punch. Swinging at someone in front of an entire stadium immediately after they taunt you is a heat of the moment bad decision. Having time in between plays to plan out your eye gouge, in the bottom of a pile assumed to be out of view no less, is not.
The Blount punch was definitely unsportsmanlike. However, I would compare Brandon Spikes' incident to the emperor's rib shank at the end of The Gladiator.

I agree, if it was the SEC championship game, he would be playing. The SEC should step in and suspend him longer...
Incidental eye gouge is much different than Intentionally trying to poke some in the eyes who is stuck at the bottom of a pile and has no way of defending themselves.
