Default An Arrest Warrant!!!

I need advice...I just received a letter from the NJ court that says:
"Please be advised that a warrant for your arrest for contempt of court as a result of an unanswered traffic summons has been issued. It has been forwarded for action to the police department shown above. To avoid the embarrassment and inconvenience of your pending arrest it is suggested that you report to the police department for the purpose of posting bail. You will then be notified of the date you will be required to appear in court"
The bail amount is $1800
Do you think they will come to my house to arrest me?? I am planning to report to the Police dept. on Monday.
I don't know what to do... Please help!

I had almost the same problem. I got 2 fix it tickets that I disregarded, and they sent me a letter like that. My bail amount was $1500. Go to court, pay the fine, and they'll take the warrant off you. Fockin' CA courts man, taxed me $1500 for 2 fix its! It was non-negotiable because they said I had the chance to go and talk to the judge but I chose not to so they threw the book at me. **** them, for all i care, the judge can go **** him/herself and suuck a fatty.

DUDE!!! What kind of ticket did you have? I had a bench warrent for like 3 days before but I got it cleared up easy.

Pay the ticket if you can, DO NOT GO THERE WITH OUT TALKING TO A LAWYER. It may cost you you a few hundred but no jail or $1800.

My $.02

they wont come to your house to arrest you. if you get pulled over while the warrant is still out, they will take you to jail. my recommendation is to just go to the courthouse and take care of it. the problem will not go away by itself, it will only get worse.

When I was 19 I let a speeding ticket go - no biggie I thought (since I was moving out-of-state to college).... until they came to my house 3 mos. later.

"Yes, officer?"

"Are you Mr. JoeDirt, PharmD?"

"erm... yeah "

"There appears to be a warrant for your arrest for FTA and I've been sent to pick you up."

"Ummm, huh?"

Yeah - that was on a Friday morning, got to sit my *** in jail the whole weekend until I saw the judge on Monday who had no sense of humor about the issue - decided to tack on an extra charge for the officer's time - no bueno.

Its SOP to issue a warrant if you have an unpaid ticket. Just go pay it. you can probably do it by phone.

What was the ticket for? One thing if it was a 5-10 over speeding ticket; quite another if it was, for example, a DUI.

Its very rare that they come to your house for that, unless its a felony warrant.

Happened once to me on fix it ticket on my motorcycle.

I sold the cycle a week later so I disregarded the ticket.

I received the notice as well. In CA they don't have time to come and pick you up, and I have seen episodes of cops where they pull over peeps with traffic warrants and let them go.

Needless to say I was scared enough to go in and deal with it. I explained my situation to the judge. He let me off with a minimal $25 fine.

I hope you are as lucky.

I don't think that what's going on with you is a scam but it sounds similar to this:

http://www1.wsvn.com/features/articl...lcase/MI21914/

Did they tell you to call them or just go to the police station?

if you live in new york and that is jersey then you have nothing to worry about, unless what you did was a felony. it is illegal for them to extradite out of state on a misdeminor... as long as you dont go into jersey then you cant be arrested..

I believe the factor that has not been pointed out is that a warrant is an extra charge added on to what you had already. It is also known as "failure to Appear". You can't just go to court and pay your prior traffic tkts off, that got you into this in the 1st place, then walk out of the court house scott free. That's not how it works. You will need to post bail 1st. If bail is set at $1800, the bailsman will charge you a certain percentage of that. In Texas it's around 12% I believe. You pay the bailsman. He will issue you a bond for each of the citations. You take that to the court house and will have to reset your court date. You will now have to answer to the judge for the traffic citations plus the failure to appear. If you wish to, you can find a traffic defense attorney and have him represent you in court. IMO that's what I'd do.

the difference is the warrant is in Jersey and he lives in New York. they can not arrest him in New York for something he did in Jersey unless it is a felony...

you can not extridite out ouf state on a misdemenor

^^^ lol and probably find one for you as well. Right? he he he Anyways, I went to the police station yesterday. They gave me two options:
1- Pay the bail amount ($1,800) and then come back to court whenever they tell me to come back.
or
2- Pay the tickets.

I didn't want to make that trip again so I just paid the tickets.

Thanks for all your help.

PS. While I was driving back from NJ, it started to rain so freaking hard!!! I just wanted to comment on how good of a job my new wiper blades and tires did!! Read my next post for more details ("Best bang for the buck" in the tires/wheels section)
