Hello. I am still kind of new to this forum and modding a 350z in general. As of now, I just installed a JWT Popcharge on my car and Borla Dual Exhaust. I am going to get it tuned and am curious as to what kind of programmer I should get, and what the best bang for the buck is. I'm not educated in tuning at all so if you want to give me advice from the ground up (IE: How it works, what it does) That would be great thanks!!
Here is a picture of my car currently http://www.geocities.com/kenhornik/350z.html (For Sale: 2003 18'' OEM Wheels/Tires 0 $600.00 Houston, TX // PM for pics)

you dont need a tune for just a pop charger and exhaust. you may be able to squeeze a few more hp's but not worth it imo.

See... I thought the same thing. But I was reading in multiple forums/websites that w/ the Borla being a true dual w/ 2.5'' piping, you will actually lose some HP, or actualy low-midrane torque because there isn't enough backpressure. Someone told me tuning it would fix the problem.

First off Borla is 2.25 not 2.5, and If you are looking to tune your car after installing your mods that wouldn't be a bad idea. There are many tunning options on the market. The most popular one is utec. If you don't want a piggy back you can get a reflash from Technosquare or you can pick up an Osiris from Uprev which I think would be the better of the two. Now it's your job to search this forum and decide which one you want. My advise to you is also to get some test pipes and an Xpipe muffler to replace the H pipe on the Borla. Your H pipe will crack eventually.

Thanks for the info! I'm still kind of the newb scale for car modding. I honestly haven't given 2 shits until recently and am absorbing all the information like a sponge. I pretty much sit up and read about car modding all night. What will the test pipes do? Also, what will the Xpipe muffler do??

Wrong. Any intake will change the way the ECU sees things. The stock MAF will read more or less air depending on the shape and style of the intake. At that point the ECU doesn't read things right and it goes into save the motor mode. It will re-learn in a day or two and start running richer than stock using more fuel and reducing over all power. Thats just how the stock ECU is. Adding the exhaust usually isn't as big of a deal to the ECU as the only sensors it read from that would truly notice anything are the O2 sensors and as long as the aftermarket exhaust doesn't change the location too much and the install didn't damage the O2 the ECU won't notice it and won't adapt. A good tune will make more power than pretty much any aftermarket part on these cars. A good tuning software package will allow you to adjust the tune when you add more parts to your car. We're good. |
