Default Vortech Z burnt exhaust vale

Hey guys, figured I'd come to the good old forum for some advice. I've had the vortech kit for about 2K miles (18K on the car) and it seemed to be running fine until a week ago. Started her up and imediately noticed something wrong. Pulled up code p0300 (random misfire). After starting with the easy trouble shooting I ended up with with a burnt exhaust valve. Possible cause bad tune? I'm in NJ and I got my work done at the only shop I could find around here, ATX. Anyone heard of it? I haven't decided how to go about fixing the problem. Should I upgrade valves and see how it goes or get built heads from Z1 or Import Parts Pro. Just worried about it happening again. I installed Uprev before I did the kit but when the sc went in, so did a UTEC, 550 cc injectors, and a walbro fuel pump. Also have Stillen true dual, megan racing test pipes, and plenum spacer. Should I go back to an uprev tune? Don't know if I trust ATX. Any advice would help, thanx guys.

Sound like a bad tune or extreme hard driving. what was your psi? and yes I would stick with uprev if you have it over utec. and its going to be pricey to have fixed if you know for 100% that it is valve.

Sounds like your tune is not up to par.

I'm pushing max 8.5 psi but barely go up there. Haven't been driving the car hard at all. Hadn't even driven the car for about four or five days and the next time I went to start her, thjis happened. WTF? I'm so pissed and I miss driving her. Any advice about the heads or valve upgrade?

How do you know it's a burnt exhaust valve? You've got the motor apart already?

If it truly is a burnt valve, it could be from a leaky valve, timing that is too retarded (tune related) resulting in too high EGTs or knocking (detonating due to timing too far advanced or low octane gas, etc).

Lot's of possibilities! Is your UTEC tune locked?

I've made an appointment at the same shop for monday so I'll know then exactly what the issue is then. I know it's not 100% but I've gotten the same answer out of three mechanics. They say it's an exhaust valve but it doesn't seem to be knocking really. What do you mean if the utec is locked?

Some pro tuners Lock there tunes that they make. So you cant have some other person just go into there tune and adjust small things or copy it. and for the valve and head upgrade its really up to you and your goals. If it was my engine and it was for sure a valve I would buy another use low mile engine and swap it for what it would cost just to do a valve and head work. Then you have a motor to play with to make your goals. if its a valve there mybe other things that could be weak and could cause problems in the future. Thats just my advice.

If you're not far from Lansdale PA, you should give Vince @ R/T Tuning a call. He can get you taken care of and get you set up right on the Osiris Tune so you don't end up with another burnt valve.

We've gotten great reviews from customers about Adam at Performance Motorsport East in Long Island if he's closer to you. Either way get the heads pulled and serviced and get the tune right so you don't have that issue again.
