Default Is 7200RPM Safe on 5AT VQ35DE?

So I finally tuned my ECU with the Osiris today, and my God what a difference. I love it! In neutral I noticed that my redline is now ~7200RPM, is that safe for a VQ35DE? I have not reached it while in gear, just wanted to make sure it's not harmful to the car.

Did you get E-tune or dyno tune?

I wanna know this, too. I'm almost done with all the bolt on parts and about to get a tune soon.

+1...Getting a tune next year since bolt-ons are done. Also, anyone know if you could do a tune for HFC and Test pipes instead of reg gas and race gas? I have the motordyne XYZ and figured this would make more sense to tune this way. Sorry to thread jack.

yeah you can rev up to 8k even with the right tune. I got my ecu reflashed/tuned by technosquare and my redline is now at 8k i shift at 7.2kish when im really stepping on it,m otherwise i shift at the normal 6ish

This is an E-Tune ROM provided to me by UpRev (Jared, you are the man!). The car seriously pulls like a raped beast, especially the low-end. It felt so amazing driving the car for 15 minutes, parking it, checking my email, seeing the new Osiris ROM, uploading it, and then driving it again -- the difference is simply massive.

This is definitely the best mod I've purchased so far, and I'm VERY happy with my car's performance now. Best of all, before, after driving the car for 30 minutes, it begins to feel slower since everything is hotter. Now? The power is relentless and just keeps coming each and every time, no matter how long I've been driving for.

I took it up to 7000RPMs today on a deserted highway, and as soon as you shift into 2nd, the tires chirped, and damn does it just pull effortlessly all the way into triple-digits. I'm not one to speed, but the car touched 110 before I even knew it, I backed off immediately. What a visceral feel.

Wow, 8K? That's insane! Dude, you have to come out to one of the Great Neck/Queens meets. I must see this FX in person, it probably feels amazing.

^^ lol. People will think you are serious.

I personally would be concerned revving a stock motor too high above the usual limit without some modifications (cams and valve springs designed/tested for those rpms). Jared at UpRev is a nissan wizard though and I would trust his experience. If he says 7200 rpms is ok, then it probably is. Of course as str8dum1 pointed out, power drops off precipitously on DE motors after about 6500 rpms. If you have increased your final drive ratio, you can still benefit from revving higher, but I have no idea how safe it is. I have JWT S2 cams and springs/shims and Clark Steppler at JWT told me not to rev past 7500. I have it set at 7200 but with a fully built motor.

Also interested in getting a good answer to this question.

I think Osiris is in my future...

Well, I looked at a few dynos with bolt-ons tuned by Osiris, and the tune makes very ample power all the way up to 7000 RPM. And in fact, you can feel that power continuously coming - you don't feel a drop-off. Now, if you were to just raise the redline without a reflash, you'd feel the drop off past 6500RPMs, but this tune is very nice and the power keeps coming.

Once again, thanks a billion to Jared! UpRev wins over yet another 350Z owner.

Would love to see links to those that show power increasing or even level between 6500 and 7000 rpms. Here's one I just pulled off from a few threads down (EK's Osiris post tune thread). Notice where the torque curve really drops off?):

oh boy

rcdash is 100% right - on a non revup, spinning the engine to 7200 is useless from a power standpoint - the car does not make power that high, and physically is unable to given the stock cams/manifold. 6200-6500 is the practical limit on a non revup

A revup will be able to rev a bit higher, and does a better job actually making power up top vs a non revup, but it's still nothing remarkable. Truly making power up top involves building the engine

But the horsepower doesn't drop off anything like that. It'll keep the car moving forward quite well.

Either way, I'll be tuning it down to 6900 or 7000-flat, don't want to go any higher than that.

I can see some revving at 7100 with at least 4.08 FD. but with stock FD stock redline it is.

7,200 RPM is 7,200 RPM. The motor does not care if it is in or out of gear. And yes 7,200 RPM is safer than 7,400 RPM.

I had a 7300rpm limit on my old 5AT G coupe for more than 30,000 miles with hard driving. The OP will be fine.

I've been boosted with a 7.2k rev limit for a while now. It really helps in the 1/4 that's for sure.

If you plan on drifting or otherwise bouncing off the rev limiter, stick with the lower red line.

I'm with you Arnold. I just got my flash done by Technosquare as UpRev couldn't do my old ecu. I think we both have X piped dual Borlas also.

I feel just about the same as you. The power band in the 6500+ rpm range should be felt with a power loss or plateau but IMHO, it keeps pulling. Or doesn't fall off nearly as much as it did before the flash might be more accurate.

I also have the higher rev limit. It's not a problem if you don't always rev that high. For me, it's nice because in MM, I used to pump into the rev limiter all the time when I shifted. Now with the few extra 100 rpm, I don't run into it. Also with the power much more linear than before, the revs don't sit and then rise like crazy like it did before. (ie.. low end lag, then takes off). It's alot easier to shift into the higher gear.

I thought the addition of the X pipe did a good job at helping the low end but the reflash did wonders.

i agree with several posters that revving past normal redline on a non revup with bolt-ons is useless in regards to "more power" only thing is having a little more rpms to avoid fuel-cut if one is trying to get perfect shifts on a drag strip in manual mode with 5at. With my car i noticed that i had to start to move my hand toward the shifter around 6100 for it to shift around 6300-6400 otherwise if i waited too long it would hit limiter and fall flat on its face.

Strange fact i experienced, i have a 06 non-revup 5at grand touring with 18 inch front and 19 inch rear rays wheels, i had a set of 17 inch wheels for track i used with same width as stock but a lot lighter and changed gear ratio as a result and would pull a lot harder-here is the weird thing, when i had those wheels on i could run up to 7000 rpms before fuel cut whereas with stock wheels i could not. i ran 3 track days with those wheels and about 5 or 6 auto-x events and 2 drag strip days.

i read a thread about over revving a non-revup without proper mods and it showed the oil pump blowing apart over 7500 rpms, i think it was Z1 performance-his 320 whp na z during its early years of the build.

I think if i had to do it again i would have bought a 07-08 HR stickshift instead and did less bolt-ons than i did and would have been a lot happier in the long run-i spent a ton of money to only get about .7 faster in the 1/4 and make it "sound" fast.

I've never had any oil pump issues whatsoever, so you're thinking of someone else. My redline has been 8400 for well over 2 years now
