I have an HR motor with dual intakes. Ever since I installed my Nismo v2 bumper with an included 'ram air' intake but only ONE (made for DE motors with a single intake) my motor idles rough, engine stalls, and at times surge between 1500 to 2000 rpm.
I had a Service Engine Soon light and the codes were:
-System too lean (bank 1)
-System idle too high
I suspect that the ram air is giving one intake more air than the other and thus throwing the 2 MAF sensors out of sync.
I've blocked the ram air tube for now, cleared the codes and things are ok for now.
Anyone else with a Nismo v2 bumper that is using the ram air tube on an HR motor????
You can pick up a Ram air for the other side! You will of coarse have to cut the bumper! A couple Vendors do sell that part.
That would be my recommendation! Also, you need to have that car tuned after that kind of Mod. Without a doubt its lean.

thanks for the link my friend. However, the scoop I'm referring to is in the picture (the black piece). It's like a scoop that routes air from the lower grille area then up into the airbox. It does NOT cut through the bumper.
I"ll drive it the way it is now with duct tape covered the scoop to verify my theory. And if true then maybe I'll just install an Injen intake system.

It may or may not have just been a fluke. There are 2 intake pipes, including 2 MAF sensors, but they both feed into a common manifold. Any differences in the airflow from either pipe feeding into the chamber will get equalized there.

YOu're right that the air will get equalized, however, the two MAF sensors will still read the amount of air coming in differently, throwing a lean code on one. Again, i'm only speculating but it hasn't happened since. However, i may say that I was able to duplicate the problem twice..simply by driving at highway speeds for 30 minutes or more.
Since I've blocked the air scoop, it hasn't happened again...but I haven't had a chance to be on the freeway for longer than 30 minutes yet.
