Nice ride BigBlue. How many miles you have now on the SC? I'm at 62k and am thinking either n/a build or sc but the high cost of FI plus the faster engine breakdown is a big detractor. Yours seems to be a legit, reliable daily though. Spoiler is pretty cool, looks like a GT3 wing and your HR could probably give one a test.

Thanks! I just past the 52K mile mark; I've had the SC kit on it for a little more than 2 yrs. and have approx. 12K miles on it. It looks new and I have had zero problems with it. I've changed the blower fluid a couple of times with Stillen's own blower fluid (it's a self contained unit) and have replaced the small blower belt once. It's a nice setup and I would say that your car would handle it well; not too stressful on the stock engine I don't think, but it can get up and go when needed and sometimes it's hard to keep the foot off! Let me know if you have any questions that maybe I can help with.

Good to hear, I'm just up in SLC. Been putting some good time into the Z and am thinking a wheel/tire + suspension upgrade is the smartest thing to start with. Thinking Enkei RPF1s in 18 or 19 x 9-10 or some combo in there with something like a nitto street race tire.

On the SC, is it possible or practical to have it dialed around 375-400whp, or is that stressful on the SC by not being enough power? Idk, just curious as it's damn attractive but being able to put it down in a daily setting is a concern.

Sounds good! Yeah, I think that with good supporting mods that you should be able to put down those whp #'s. You would be just fine when you hit the street; this I know quite a few times over.

Default Switch and Barrel covers

I know I may get some grief for going a simple route, but I was sick of that crappy oem material on the switch covers and barrels of my car doors! I actually did this a few months ago and I love having nice looking "hard shell" covers once and for all! * in pic of switch cover the reflection makes it look like cover ends along that line where it meets padded arm rest, but the cover actually curves under/down at that point and looks real nice (pass. door in pic #3 is a better shot of it) even though the pic doesn't look near as good as it really does. Also what looks like scratches/lines are weird reflections; the camera flash went off on all 3.

I cannot remember the make of these (can't find receipt); I think I ended up ordering them off of Amazon, but they were some of the better stick on type. I am impressed with the good fitment, easy application and a solid (3M double side tape) mount. It looks a lot better than the scratched up oem crap, mine wasn't that bad, but it was getting worse and scratched with just my finger nails, etc. *These covers are black CF. Don't hammer me too hard, but I'm very happy with going this route.

some pics:

But seriously, this is a great build. And respectfully spoken: "Old" Guys DO Rule!!

Hahahahahahaaaaaaa..... stone groove, maaaaaan.....

Ever tell anyone I grew up 10 blocks from Haight and Ashbury? Serious.

Think I just lost anyone under 30.... that's OK, I don't trust 'em. (And surely that will definitely lose 'em. What generation gap?)

Hi bigblue,

I'm new on here and have been reading your thread with real interest . You've build a lovely zed ! I'm particularly interested in it as I run the stillen v3 kit on my San Marino blue 350. One of my next mods I'm looking into is the final drive gear set . I've noticed you've had these fitted already and would really appreciate your impressions of them running with the stillen kit .

Cheers Josh

Thanks and good luck with your build! I bought the car new and for years I was pretty firm that I would stay NA, but good mods. I had Stillen long tubes, added the MD tdx2 plus art pipes and then came the 3.9 fd gears, UpRev. I loved the gear swap from the day I got them and still do! However, 2 1/2 yrs. ago I had the Stillen V3 SC kit installed and with the 3.9 gears, 2nd gear about 35-40 mph or 60 mph in 3rd and pedal stomp and it hits it hard the rest of the way; pulls hard.

As you probably know, most guys here that are FI, especially the built engines and higher HP will say to go to 3.3 or so fd gears or at least stay stock 3.5 fd. I don't run the 1/4 and some would say that 3.9 fd gears is too much for FI in 1st gear, but for street driving I'm very glad that I chose the Central 20 3.9's! You could ask the guys here that have gone to 3.9 or 4.08 and they will give you the thumbs up.

I'll stop rambling (if that's possible!) and tell you that you will love the instant kick of the 3.9s with the V3 kit! Just make sure that you get the install done by someone who really knows the minute details of the importance of exact tolerances of the fd gear setup; shims and combo thereof need to be exact and may take install (on the bench), take apart, check tolerances, different shim/s install again, etc. until just right. I am lucky to have a great mechanic/tuner who has raced his cars for many yrs. and was very meticulous with my gear and sc kit install. Let me know and post up if you get this done and give a review!

Thanks for the reply man

my install is going well , had the charger on for about 4 months now with the 9lb pulley . It's a great little set up . Not many FI zeds in the UK . I'm planning on getting a quaife lsd fitted at some point and would make sense to do the 3.9 at the same time . Just trying to figure out if it's worth it . Can you still get 60mph + out of 2nd? And do you need to get into 4th to reach 100mph?

Little pic of mine ( if the link works !)

^ Your car looks great! I like the blue painting that you did to the front of engine bay.

About speeds in gears, I am spaced out as usual (need to pay more attention!) and can't say for certain top speed in 2nd, I think about 60. I do know that I'd get 105 mph at top of 3rd stock (3.5s), with the 3.9s it's closer to 95; that's an issue for 1/4 mile run due to shift into 4th.
