Default 2008 350z wont idle after borla cbe and admintuning 3" cai install

After installing my admin tuning 3" cai on my vq35hr the engine when started surges to 3k rpm then goes to around 300 rpm and tries to die. I am getting a tune asap. Does this sound normal for a 3" cai install on a vq35hr with no tune?

You can't install a different size of MAF without a reflash. The ecu is having a hard time figuring out the air ratio. Put your old intake back until then

had nothing to do with the airboxes...do yourself a favor and read-up on how MAFs function and why changing to a 3" intake (and changing nothing else) confuses the ECU.

when you go and dyno tune will you have your tuner run a few passes with the OEM setup and then swap on your new 3" intakes and let us know how much power you gain?

Thanks for the info i used the term airboxes because the intake tube leading off the airbox is where my MAF plugs in its all made in one piece . i have a basic understanding of MAF functions and why this happens when you change the intake tube diameter especially where the MAF itself fits. I dont believe i am going to put my original airboxes back on for a baseline tho im not concerned with gaims as much as havimg the car run nice and crisp with throttle response and a good smooth power curve and just run its best for what it is with the bolt ons. But on the other hand i would like to see my gains and know my bolt ons are making an improvent but i have to go out of town about 2 hrs for the tune now that all the fitment is perfect on intakes it would be easier to reinstall when i get there if i were to put stock airboxes back on but i dont like the idea of changing parts out of town when i dont have too. Ill be taking a truck and car hauler

i think it'd be foolish to NOT to get a baseline! I'd be interested seeing what sort of gains the HR would put down.

what are you tuning with? Assuming Uprev? Do you need their MAFs for the additional air flow these intakes will provide?

Full 3" intake, headers or tp and exhaust should get you around 300whp.
Oem MAF sensor will be ok.

man i would love to have had a baseline it just wasnt my best option right now . i agree with you totally having a baseline and knowing your gains and seeing improvement is half of the point but i trust my tuner and know i will be getting good gains. Wise to baseline yes , '"Foolish" not too i disagree
