Auto tranny's are lame in anything designed to go around corners. For drag racing, nothing beats an auto with a loose converter, but I don't plan on drag racing the Z.
Before you bring it up, tranny's like the one in the Ferrari's and in the GTR aren't autos. They're robotic manuals.

And I reject your and anyone else's version of reality (thinking that ATs are lame) and accept my own. The AT in the Lexus ISF is still competitive with the MT and the DCTs in the M3 and RS4s of the world; that includes ON THE TRACK.
I am not starting an AT vs. MT war.... I would also have a MT if I planned on doing even 35% tracking of the car, but I do not.... Even the new ATs are much evolved. Saying an AT is lame is as much an opinion as someone saying MTs are outdated and archaic.
Quite frankly, with the new rev matching MTs, maybe they WON'T be as fast on the track at first. New technology = bugs....
Evolve your mind, be open to new concepts and truth on old technology made new....

The Z doesn't have to turn out 350hp to keep up with the competition. Hell an HR is giving most cars a run for the money..
Keep in mind that this new Z will weigh just a touch over 3,000lbs. I could care less if it makes 330 or 350hp, as long as it complies with the speculated weight loss, this car will handle like my brothers RX8. And the RX8 is one of the best handling cars I have driven.

Nothing wrong with old technology. The manual is far older than the automatic. In fact, that's why I like it. No need to update/fix something that works just fine. There's a reason race cars (non-drag) don't have TQ converters.

400hp v8 norms i was actually referrring to the "muscle" wars that appear to be going, even with high gas prices. I mean, why hasnt nissan ever offered the 350z with a power upgrade and put it in line with a vette? Ive been able to run many 300hp v8s and come up on top with my HR, but never a 400hp vette or modded camSS. The weight reduction will help A LOT, but the new camaros and mustangs will be running 400hp v8s i nthe next couple of years. Im just wondering why nissan, building track cars, hasnt even directly competed with the vette.

While the domestics are injecting more liters in their engines, Nissan is putting the Z on a much-needed diet. I am glad Nissan sticks to the V6 rather than utilize gas guzzling V8 engines. Less weight and a more potent V6 is a great combination.
Domestics can focus on quarter mile times. Nissan will take a step back and look at the big picture.

Nissan's answer to the Corvette is the GTR. And by all means, the Corvette bites the R35's dust. Fanboys might make excuses, but the fact is that the R35 killed the competition.

Funny how domestics are chasing the GTR with V8's & V10's. Nissan sticks it to em with a V6.

this is pure speculation based on the supporting evidence of whatever data you think you might know...ultimately the stupid ones are the ones ridiculing others for speculating what they personally believe...
With that, I say it's gonna have 1000HP...

Thinking the HP will be 330. Same as the G now.
But for those thinking the 400 hp V8 are going to dust it, remember this. The Camaro and Mustang are pigs. They are going to weigh ~3800llbs. the 370, ~3000. So sure they'll have 70 more HP, but that will have to pull 800llbs. The weight to HP ratio should be fairly equal, although they will have more TQ. Gearing will also play into it.
Who cares anyway? I think the people who talk trash about "my" car is faster than yours is stupid anyway. Did you design, engineer and build it? No, you just paid for the damn thing.
To each is own.

What's the best 1/4 time for the new Challenger? I remember seeing somewhere on it running low 13's, but I have no idea what conditions that was in. Either way, even the current HR Z is in low 13s territory. I see no reason why the 370 wouldn't be able to run high 12s, which already gives 90% of cars out there a run for their money.

This weight loss and increased power along with hopefully a stronger engine woudl be great ingredients for a track car. Thinking about getting one and going FI with the track as my main focus. Horsepower isnt' my main concern becasue that can always be modified and we all know no matter waht it will ahve more power than an HR. Kinda hard to get over the way this thing looks though.
