Default Tire Size Suggestions for 18x9.5 +22 Square

I've done a lot of searching for info and looked at as many pics as I could but I'm still having trouble deciding on what tire size to get for my set of 18x9.5 +22 Volks - so far it's limited to VDC/TCS compliance and tire selection.

This is what I've got so far. I'll be on coilovers for suspension.

265/35-18 all around - RE11's and other HP tires come in this size, rotatable
255/40-18F and 275/40-18R - Preferable but little/no choice in HP tires
245/40-18F and 275/40-18R - Better for VDC/TCS? Not very aggressive, can't rotate

Can anyone comment on these three choices based on experience? I'm mainly concerned about VDC/TCS operating correctly. Right now I'm leaning towards 265/35-18 all around.

Thanks for any help!

265/35 will look awfully small in the rear. Have you considered 265/35 and 275/35? Nitto Invo or NT05, Hankook V12 and Falken Azenis RE615K are available in both sizes.

Definitely go 255/40-18F and 275/40-18R...

... or swap 265/40-18 for the front

... or go 275/40-18" all square (it will work with your VDC)

But, don't go all-square with all front tire size. It wont' work correctly.

I would definitely go with 255 in the front but I can't get the kind of tires I want with the 275 rear.

What about 285/35-18 on the 9.5 rim? Is that going to be too wide of a tire? With a 265 in the front to balance the VDC issue.

Personally, I wouldn't go any wider than a 275 on a 9.5". You can also consider 265/35 and 265/40. You may be thinking too much on the VDC issue. In my experience, as long as the rear tires are at least 3mm taller than the fronts, you wont have any problems.

Thanks for all the replies. I've seen a couple 265/35-18 square setups but I was afraid it'd look too small in the rear, even though I'm going to lower it. Would 245/40-18 be too stretched on a 9.5" rim? Maybe I'll just got the safe, stagger route and run 245F and 275R

Hey Advan, how are you liking your 10.5" all around right now? Are you running a square tire setup too? Any fender issues?

Love it. 18x10.5+15 all round with a 10mm spacer in the rear. 275/35 285/35. All fenders rolled flat.

Nice man! Are you running a camber kit in the front? I may have an chance to snag some 10.5" wheels and I wonder if 265/35-18 with a bit of a stretch in the front will clear the fender

I do have Cusco A-arms with a little negative camber. I've been meaning to adjust them back to OEM camber since installing these wheels but I haven't had the time so I can't tell you if they will rub on OEM settings. But then again, I have 275/35 so I think 265/35 will clear fine IMO.

How is the quality on the Cusco's? Do you like them?
I'm looking for a safe pair of aftermarket front upper arms, trying to stay away from junky ones. They look awfully similar to the ebay and megan styles.

i have the spc and i like them, however they are not easy to adjust on the fly. several of my friends are using the kinetix arms.... they are point so many degrees per turn in and out

No problems at all and easy to adjust while on the car. I definitely wouldn't put them in the same class as Megan, the bushings are far better from what I have read on Megan/Ichiba.

Read on this page, someone just asked a similar question. Also, you can't have a square wheel/tires setup without without having issues with the VDC unless you turn it off everytime you drive. You may be able to drive normally without your SLIP light illuminating but any aggressive driving will set it off.
