Default Refinishing / Painting Stock Wheels

I had new tires installed, and in doing so three of my wheels got either chipped or scratched. I even took it to the nissan dealer where I bought the car 'cause I figured they would be extra careful. Anyway, they agreed to have the wheels refinished by a local shop who offers the service, the hubcap and wheel store.

I talk with a guy at the hubcap and wheel store, and he says the refinishing process involves taking the wheels down to the metal, then applying paint and clearcoat. I asked him if they could be done in another color, and his response was "Ya, we do that all the time."

So now I'm thinking I should get my stock 17s repainted either gloss black or gunmetal. I would only have to pick up the cost of one wheel, and I think either color would look sharp on my lemans Z. I have a couple of questions.

Has anybody done this sort of thing before, and how was your experience?

Do people think the stock wheels are too "chunky" to pull off a black or gunmetal or carbon color? Most wheels that are available in those colors seem to be thinner spokes.

Anybody got pics of black or gunmetal wheels on a lemans Z?

Thanks for any responses.
