I ended up getting the rs3 275/35/19 rears, no issues!

Default Nismo wheels & Tire sizes

I am in the process of putting 2008 Nismo wheels on my 2007 350z roadster. I think that these wheels look great, and I want to put a larger tire on the rims. The tire combo that I want is Front: 255/40/18 and in the rear: 275/40/19
Has anyone out there used this size and how did it work? Any clearance issues?

I chose this size as I did not want to put 35's on the back as the roads I drove on are on the rough side.

Thanks for your help.

That should be fine if you are stock height, as the rims don't have a ton of offset so a little more tire will still be under the fender. I use a 245/40 front and 285/35 rear and it's perfectly sized for the wheels IMO, I want to go a bit wider on the front but I can't with the tire choice I want.

Just curious, any TCS issues with 265/40/18 on front? I like how it fills out the wheel wells and probably adds a bit more cushioning.

I just replaced my stock Potenza tire sizes for some 265/35/18 and 285/30/19 Nitto INVO's. Looks pretty awesome and is a lot quieter. We'll see how they perform since I'm running stock ride height atm.

Pics?

Would really like to see this

Also, do you notice the extra unsprung weight? I imagine those tires must add an extra 4 or 5 lbs at each corner, over stock tire sizes?

I'll take some pics later today after work.

I haven't noticed anything just yet, haven't really driven it much since I put the new tires, been such a busy week! So far it feels pretty solid.

Those 265/285 are a great combo, but I would prefer 40/35 ratios since the 35/30 look a bit thin.

I agree. It's the atrocious stock wheel gap that makes it look that way. It'll look a lot better once I get coilovers.

I agree - Nissans always have a big wheel gap!

I have to admit though, it doesn't look that bad in person, for some reason it didn't tranlate well in pictures. I'm also not a very good photographer either. lol

Glad I ran across this thread because I decided on my own to upsize the rear tires on my Nismo 350Z wheels. I just picked up a set of Nismo 350Z wheels from another forum member for my 2003 350Z and I decided to go with the stock size 245/40/18s in front and 275/35/19s in the rear. Got a great deal on a set of S-04 Pole Positions from the TireRack.

That is the size combo I am currently using and it works great. Those are actually the stock tire sizes that were sold on Nismos in Japan so you are on right on point. I'll personally be going with 265/40/18 and 285/35/19 for my next tire combo because 1) I think the taller tire will give a better ride, 2) need extra rubber width for autocross, 3) that is the size RE-11's come in.

I've also considered the S-04 - let me know how those work out! I currently have RE760's which are one performance level below the S-04's and they have been great (already at 26,000 miles on them and still have tons of tread left! although ultimate grip is not quite as much as I'd like). Supposedly the S-04's are better in most respects. I might use S-04 instead of RE-11 to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the info. The S-04's are a really good deal right now. $880 shipped for the sizes I ordered plus a $70 mail in rebate from Bridgestone. Net cost is going to be roughly $800 for the set. The Tire Rack representative highly recommended the tires for the money. He said they were just below the Michelin Pilot Super Sports in terms of performance for a lot less money. He also told me he was part of Tire Rack's testing team that tests all the tires they sell and that he wouldn't hesitate to buy these tires over the other options we discussed, Continental, Hankook and other Bridgestone tires.

As a firestone tech I have all of those tires on my vehicles, 760s on my tercel, S04s on the Sonic, RE-11s on the Nismo.

For me, the 760 to S04 is a sideways move in the grip department, they are a better wet weather tire and supposedly more smooth but I have different sizes on all the cars so sidewall stiffness changes too much from that to make a call.

In my experience if you want the car to grip don't waste time, go straight to the RE-11, they are flat out amazing in almost any conditions. I like the S-04 on certain vehicles but if I was looking for a budget tire I would stick to the RE760 as it still handles very nicely for daily abuse but you might be limited in sizing for the Z if using the nismo wheels.

No doubt the RE-11s are the more extreme performance tire, but they are also considerably more expensive than the S-04s. I have another set of wheels and tires I use for autocrossing so the S-04s are a good set up for mostly highway/road driving.

Just picked up my wheels and tires from the tire shop. Even a 275/35/19 tire looks somewhat stretched on the rear wheels. Maybe I should have gone with 285s. I can't wait to see what they look like on the car. Unfortunately it will probably be Sunday afternoon before I have time to swap them out.
