Default Help a Z girl find new tires guys!!!

Hey everyone!!

Sooo glad to see that many of you are still here and helping each other with our Z's! I've been away for over a year, and want to say "Hi all!" to all my old friends on the site. Hope your all well and your babies are treating you well...and your cars, lol!

Time for tires again guys. If you recall, I think I set a record by recording 57,000 miles on my original rear RE050's that came with the car. Yup...that was miles! I have almost 150,000km on the car (93k miles) and have gone through three sets of front's (originals and two sets of replacement RE050's free from Nissan for feathering issues) and now two sets of rears (originals and replacement Dunlop Sportmaxx's put on at 56k miles)! Pretty good I'd say, lol. BUT, feathering/cupping has always returned and car has always been loud and annoying for that.

So, to the present and the facts!

I am replacing ALL FOUR tires. I am in Vancouver, Canada so LOTS of rain, but only approx 10days of snow on average per year for past 20yrs (NONE this year!). I do have another vehicle to drive on snow days, but "could" find myself driving the Z the odd day in snow.

Here are the 20yr average stats weatherwise for Vancouver to help you help me:

Temperature Statistics °C

J F M A M J J A S O N D
Maximum 6 8 10 13 16 19 22 22 18 14 9 6
Minimum 0 1 3 5 8 11 13 13 10 6 3 1
Mean 3 5 6 9 12 15 17 17 14 10 6 4

For US guys Fahrenheit:

Max 42 44 58 65 69 74 74 65 58 43 43
Min 30 32 36 40 46 52 56 56 50 42 36 32
Mean 33 40 42 48 54 60 64 64 58 50 42 38

Precipitation

J F M A M J J A S O N D

Rain (mm) 132 116 105 75 62 46 36 38 64 115 167 161
Snow (cm) 21 9 4 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 19
Total (mm) 150 124 109 75 62 46 36 38 64 115 170 179

**Couldn't get tables to work better...sorry!

Want's/Needs:

-something less likely to cup/feather
-something with a better ride than RE050's as this is daily driver
-don't want to turn the car into a boat, BUT I don't ever track/race the car and drive casually...but do appreciate handling

Questions:

1) Should I go All-seasons or summer's? I've been told that All-seasons will help with feathering and ride...but will they ruin handling?

2) Based on weather up here, are All-seasons better for the rain and better for my weather on average (ie. are Vancouvers temp's better suited for All-seasons)??

3) Should I consider going larger widths than stock 225/45/18F+245/45/18R I have now? I would like the look of larger tires, but will it make tires louder regardless of type or ruin the ride, and will I lose rain handling or gain in that? What are pros/cons of this and what size would you consider?

My fave's

I am looking at: Bridgestone RE960 Pole Position All Seasons
Continental DWS All Season
Continental DW Summer
Hankook Ventus V12 Summer
General Exclaim UHP
Michelin's Pilot A/S Plus or PS2 too $$ for me, unless you
guys think its a must

YES, a tonne of info guys, but better than too little which we all hate. Tirerack guys only confused further offering polarized opinions. Open to any and all suggestions however. Thank you all for your help as always!:thankyou:

Default Some thoughts

I do like Mich PS all season, but just put on Kankook-much less $$$
Given your climate, all season is probably a good idea.
I do like the advice I get from Tire Rack guy Larry, don't know if they mail to Canada, however.

^^^ I knew that was coming... Calin, ya dog. Out of the list that you provided, I would go with the Continental A/S given the particular climate that you are in. I have been running Conti's for a while now and have absolutely no complaints with them what so ever. Either way, definitely go all season. The larger the width/contact, the better... That is a given. Don't worry about posting pics for these suckers, just pm them to me and well call it even.

General Exclaim UHP's, Falken Ziex-ZE912's and Cooper Zeon Sport A/S tires are All Season tires I've come to trust so far, since buying my Z. They all have good treadlife, and good handling characteristics. Typically aren't all that expensive either. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the info so far guys! Gosh, I really can't believe how helpful everyone always is on this and the other 350zmotoring site!

You guys have helped me with SOO much over the years! THANK YOU!

Some more info. Again, are the All-seasons a better bet b/c of the weather we have in Vancouver OR are they better for rain, or both or?????

Are you guys generally happy with their driving/handling?

Thank you and keep the recommendations/insight coming.

Did the General's drive well to their end? Any idea how long they lasted? Were they a quiet/comfortable ride as compared to RE050? Did they handle the rain well?

Hi SteveO!

ARe you using the DWS?

How much mileage do you have on them? Can you tell me a bit more about them? And do you say "my climate" as in their better for rain than the summer's?

Thank you!

+1. I bought two sets of the Falken ZE912s. They had fantastic traction in the rain and were pretty inexpensive. They also have a 40k mile warranty. I think I paid around $800 for all four with road hazard.
