The biggest difference is the amount of lip you'll get. The concavity doesn't change much. +22 is perfect for the front, with +12 you've got to get some adjustable A arms and add camber if you are not stretching the tire.

Hmm why does your 19x9.5 +22, 255/35 setup look so much more flush than my exact same setup (on ce28n though, not TE37)? Maybe your Bridgestones run wide and/or my Toyos run narrow I've always felt I needed 10mm spacers but just dealt with the look because I'm not a fan of spacers.

Yes, tire sidewall can play a factor in the flush appearance. My personal experience -- I noticed BFGoodrich KDW's and Michelin PS2's side wall bulges out more than the Bridgestone RE-11's. Front tires in the reference pic are Michelin PS2's btw. I've never dealt with Toyo tires and can only assume their side wall are flat like the Bridgestone RE-11's.
And yes, I agree with you on spacers... don't like them whatsoever. I am sunken in a little but would rather have this look than to add spacers.

Good to know. My toyo's are shot and I was planning on my next set of tires being the michelin pilot super sports, so maybe that will help the look a little bit. Are you running less negative camber than factory spec in that pic? My fronts are at -2.0.
