I used to sell those Coopers and people who bought liked them.
Me, well, I have been an advocate of the Sumitomo HTR Z-III (NOT the Z-II, bleah) to meet all the needs expressed - budget, looks, handling. I can't speak to wear as I've not owned a set long enough to determine.
The standard line I've said a thousand times: "I bought these in stock size a ways back to run on Track 1 wheels but worried I'd lose the steering response and ultimate grip I had with the Michelin PS that were on the car when I got it. To my pleasant surprise, the steering was still razor sharp, grip good, the tire gave good warning feedback at limits then continued to hang on."
Presently run a set of 255/275/40s on 18x9.5 RPF1s. Love 'em and matter of fact, like the feel/response even better than my 19" Bridgestone S04s (and I like those a lot too.)

for the price of the tire you can't go wrong. Major reason I run these is because the traction it gives you in the rain, very predictable. Grip on normal days is good for what it is. The bad part in my opinion is when it gets a bit cold these tires start to be a pita and won't grip at all. Still an amazing tire and I would recommend it to anyone on a budget or a daily driver cars.

In investigating the Copper Zeon RS3-A ( all season ) or RS3-S ( street )
I was surprised to find out that Copper, while not big into the OEM Market, has a 13% market share in the replacement business.
The Zeon is ( if you can call it OEM ) the tire of choice on Roush Mustangs.
Pricing for set of 4 Coopers mounted and all is coming out be around $560
To replace with the same as I got, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, is pricing out at $717
Hankook S1 Nobel $565
Leaning towards the Coopers right now...
Ears open to other commentaries, experiences, and recommendations.

Brand: Achilles
Model: ATR SPORT
Item#: N/A
Price: $110, $80 on sale
Tire size: 245/45 zr18
Wheel Size: stock 18x9
Compound: All season?
PSI: 34 - 38
Use: commuting
Camber/Caster: Stock
Wet/Dry Performance: Dry 8/10, 8.5/10 (for a commuter tire)
Tire Life: Looks like these are at least 4 years old when I got themand still have tons of tread and a decent amount of grip.
Comments:
These are the tires I got with my Z when I bought it. They were starting to crack and looked a little aged. These were just going to be my tires until I upgraded tires and wheels for track use. One rainy day my buddy told me to come with him to an open lot and toast them. I figured why not they are junkmoff brands anyways... let me just burn these up..
To my surprise they held on pretty dam well in the wet, really well for the type of tire actually. I had to actually try and get these loose in the wet. After that just commuting in the wet these, tho aged did pretty dam well. I looked online and all over these tires are highly rated for wet use. I believe it 100%.
Dry they are like any basic commuting tire. Have grip but once you get a little pedal happy or aggressive they like to come out a little. But not terrible for a road tire. I would actually highly reccomend these for commuting on stockers. Maybe even non stock for all season. Again my are 4 years old if not more I could only imagine they are 2x better new.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet...
Anyone ever hear of the Hercules Raptis RT-5 ?
If so, like to hear anything you guys can add....
00AAA UTQG rating
Z Rated
45,000 mile warranty
Got a quote of $497 out the door...
This a 74,000 mile, 14 year old, bone stock, Spring-Summer-Fall Commuter car that will get 13,000 miles a year put on it.
Not an investment, Not a Show Car, Not a Track Car.
It's a rapidly depreciating asset, and possibly a ticking time bomb potential of added expenses that may not be worth it, that's why I'm going the budget route.
Thanks for the ongoing feedback.

But ya, I'd guess they're yet another of the cheap import tires from the land of my peeps. (That'd be China, y'all..yeehaw!) Right up there with that set of 18" "Ling Long Crosswinds" I bought for my commuter Z32 (serious). They weren't horrific (for my then 25 mile RT commute a coupla years ago) and cost less than $300 for the set. Heh heh.....
And you thought I was kidding? Laff.
But seriously, AX, I understand "budget" and "not a show car" but please don't cheap out on tires, especially for COMMUTING, a much more dangerous "competition" than track use. You gotta contend with bad roads, unpredictable weather, all types of road surfaces, and need tires that can handle "F&F road warrior evasion", "doofus driver 'imagined emergency' stops", all more intense than on a billiards table smooth track.
Spend closer to your limit for known good tires. Here's the TR selection:

No experience on any but the Sumitomo and the Yoko S.Drive (but both pure summer tires) but have heard relatively positive comments on: Kumho Ectsa 4x II, Conti Extreme Contact (however, not an all season), Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2, Pirelli P-Zero All Season (slightly over budget after shipping, M&B)

That's what I have... these things are pretty dam amazing in wet...
And mine are at least 4 years old and cracking.. can't even imagine them new..
But yea if you push at all these things let loose with any sort of aggression. But for daily commuting they are everything I could as for as a commuting tire.
Update**
I did some REALLY aggressive driving this weekend on these achelies tires and when these warm up these really gain some grip. For the small profile and budget price these tires are pretty dam good to be honest.
When they hear up they really start to get noisy too. For comparison I started around 35 psi.. highway got them up to around 38..after a couple runs in the canyon I had to air them down back to 38 hot.. (assuming they were around 43-45 psi)..
Took air temp when I got home after letting them cool for a couple hours PSI is back to 28-32 psi cold. Gatta re air up haha
But I would HIGHLY reccomend these tires for a budget commuter.

The time has come....
Got 32,000 miles of my driving on the old Michelin Pilot Sport AS Pluses.
Was going to wait for Spring time, but an incredibly warmer and drier than usual Winter here means the Z is getting driven daily in Jan & Feb.
The Dry Rot Cracks and vanishing Tread is freaking me out.
Got the Cooper Zeon RS-A s on order...
Under $600 for the Set, includes all the stems and seeds, taxes and fees, etc.
They're not on the car yet, last chance to talk me out of these....

Trigger Pulled. Tires On. 250 Miles so far...
Went with the Cooper Zeon RS3 A - 1st off, it is good to have tread once again....
While not a sexy tire from a sidewall point of view, initial impressions of their performance is rather favorable.
Thanks for recommendation.
$598 Spent.
Will report back after more miles, but so far, so good.

Not sure if this is allowed in this particular thread but if not I can remove and repost elsewhere. Anybody run Continental extremecontact dws06? If so how do you like them and are they pricy? I just had to replace two tires (both on left side the previous owner I assume just bought used tires as they ate all at different tread depths and only 2 were even matching treads but all wear is nice and even across the tire no feathering or anything) and I went with two used tires 225/50/17 245/50/17 (the sizes that were already on it) but they are the continental extremecontact dws06 (I found it funny they were matching I got them from two different shops) and I have not really had time to test them out but I really like the looks of them and I have read some reviews but want it straight from another z owner and am thinking about getting a new set of these next time it's time for tires

Hankook ventus V12
Tire size: 255/40/18 Fr 275/40/18 Rr
Wheel Size: Enkei Rpf1 18x9.5 +15 all around
Compound: Summer
PSI: 33-35 cold cold
Use: Street
Camber/Caster: -2ish on camber
Wet/Dry Performance: wet is great, dry is great
Tire Life: so far so good, ran only 1 summer season.
these were the first set of tires I bought for the Z, before these I had BF goodrich g-force KDW which i ran until wires were showing.
so far i like em. great in the dry and plenty of grip on the bends. I haven't found the breaking point of these tires yet because i'm too chicken to loose my car but i do push it
