tread picture
I need a favor from someone with a new Z with 17inch tires. Could you please post a picture of your front Bridgestone tread pattern? The front I believe has been redesigned to help with the feathering problem. All of the other posts about this subject have been 18s. This would be a big help to me, Thanks

I saw an '05 on Sunday and checked out the tires on it but couldn't see a difference in the tread pattern compared to my '04. I had heard rumors that there was a new tread pattern to "solve" the feathering problem but I have my doubts about it.
I thought that people who put other brands of tires on their Z were also reporting feathering?

Re: tread picture
sorry i cant post any pictures cause my fronts have long since been trashed. but yes the tread pattern for the 040's has been changed in the recent past. this may be my sinister side coming out but i think the tread design change was a way to deceptively hide the feathering issue, and here is why i think this way:
in order to see the signs of the feathering you have to have what, indivdual tread blocks on the edges of the tire. that way you can see the distinct wear pattern from front to back of each individual block.
well to counter this what would happen if we eliminate the tread blocks on the outside and make the edge of the tire one constant piece of rubber with occasional grooves for water (which is what they did to the 040's)? well then a person would not see the feathering. is the underlyineg problem gone, no.
maybe this is just my skeptical side talking, but its my $.02.
later.
