Default Missed a dog, took out a fence......

On the way to work today, as I was getting on the onramp to the fwy, a dog ran out in front of my car. I swerved to miss the dog, (I had the TCS off lol), and the rear got away from me, and I hopped a curb and took out a fence. Xmas comes early to me......
Some pics for your viewing....

By the way, the style king kit that is on my car I believe is one of only 3 in North America (in kevlar).
anyone want to buy the rest of the kit? (hehehe j/k)

The damage assesment:
The front bumper is obviously needing to be replaced. I'll also need a new fender. Some brackets for both the fender and the bumper, some clips, and that's about it. The side pic of the car, shows scratches, that hopefully buff off. I hand waxed with cleaner wax the side before work real quick, and they came off almost all the way, so that's not a big issue at all. Hopefully I didn't bend or crack any rims, or ruin tires or suspension etc...

The lesson: Hit the brakes, hit the dog next time......

Easy to say that when your not in the situation. You don't see the outcome when its happening.

If it was a small dog, then yes you should have hit it. If it was a large dog, then it was probably a toss.

That kids puppy wasn't worth my $1K deductible, rental car costs and being without my vehicle for weeks. I should have plowed it and taken it home for burrito meat...... sorry for the thread jack (I am in the same situation).

Karma's an evil thing...

Guess some of us have more compassion for life and less focus for material. Wait until someone plows your childs puppy one day, and you have to watch YOUR kid go through the pain and sorrow.

It's a freaking car... life vs. car... Get a FREAKING GRIP!

Included, you're the one that wants to have cheaper insurance rates by carrying such a high deductible.

I totally disagree, what if YOU swerved to miss a dog, and hopped a curb and killed 3 children sitting waiting for a bus? The risks involved are not worth it to swerve for a dog. I love dogs, and I have one myself, but the time to save dogs isn't when your driving a 3000pound vehicle, if you really cared that much go check out PETA and see what is going on with animal testing. No one will run a dog over for the fun of it, but when it comes down to ruining your car, or possibly injuring yourself/others the dogs life isnt that important.

Hit the dog...then hope it has a collar or a microchip and sue the owner....it is their responsibility to keep it confined.

In additionm, I've taken too many crash reports of people swerving to miss a squirrel, dog, cat, deer, raccoon...and wind up hurt. It isn't a monetary thing....it's a safety thing.

I have to agree. The next time its dog or fence nail the dog.
Having been in this situation before I tagged the dog. It was a large dog, german shepard.
I hit it running at a fairly good speed.
Killed the dog. I wasnt in my Z but the car i was in took alot less damage than your Z.
I had to replace the radiator and front bumper but that was about it.
Sorry this happend to you man. Id cry like a baby if that was my Z.

Exactly. I could have easily been seriously injured myself or killed. In the future, my choice will be to hit the animal. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't feel good about it.... but it isn't worth risking my life, someone elses or the troubles it has caused me.

Don`t hit the dog, don`t take the fence out, don`t run over a bunch of kids.
Try to be a better driver.
My buddy hits this dog with his Honda head on, the dog let`s out a big yelp, the dog gets up limping and runs away. As it turns out the radiator blows and the front fender gets cought under the front wheel fender and the car had to be towed away to the repair shop, I know I couldn`t beleive it myself.

i dont think anyone would have the presence of mind to actually hit the dog...its instinct to move out of the way...

im surprised the abs bumper cracked like it did...i also hopped a curb once but it was a big one so it bent my wheel and cracked some suspension parts..hope you have a better outcome

Whatever dude, now you're just pulling stuff in the air for the sake of debate.

I just hope that if ever I'm in this situation that I can sleep soundly knowing my car wasn't the instrument in death.

... as for your comment about crying like a baby... that tells me where your opinion lay. I love my Z, but it gets wrecked... it can be fixed. It's only a freaking car.
