What does 2004.5 mean?

I keep seeing people refering to their Z's as MY2004.5...what makes it a half year? I bought mine in Aug of 04, so what does that make me?

Re: What does 2004.5 mean?

Mine had a production date of June 2004. So I always list 2004.5. I started doing this when people were posting threads about tire feathering to determine if the 2004 / 2005's had the same problem.

Just a habit. Not sure what to call yours other than 2004.10 Seems ridiculous now that you ask.

thanks, but that didnt really answer my question :)

Nissan made some changes midway through the 2004 model year, including some cosmetic changes, knee pads, suspension changes to address feathering problems, etc. Do a search on 2004.5 and you will find plenty of posts and links on the subject.

I originally found the official distinction between the two on the nissan-tech.com site. You can tell in the VIN numbers:

2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs up to D*4T160000,E*4T060000) (Roadster VINs from D*4T102001 to D*4T110000 & from A*4T002001 to A*4T010000)

2004.5 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs from D*4T160001, E*4T060001) ( Roadster VINs from D*4T110001, A*4T010001)

I spoke with Nissan about this issue and they stated any 2004 350Z with a 10/03 production date or later is considered a 2004.5

so the 2004.5 doesnt have feathering issues? I have 10k on mine and I am starting to notice a little road noise out of mine. The tires look like they still have some life out of them, but I have not inspected for feathering. The front could be warn out early due to a drift eent of two, but at a quick glance, they appear to be fine.

10K ... From the pics I have seen you would of already known.
and had it. It affects most ppl in the 6000-8000 mile range I have noticed so if you make it through there your fine.

No, the problem is not fixed on the 2004.5s. I have one and just got the tires "rotated" because of feathering at about 6500 miles.

They realigned the front end - old settings and new settings were significantly different.

i know people rotate the tires to try to combat feathering, and it sorta works for a few hundred miles, but it'll just come back.

The tires ARE directional
be careful in the rain
