A second ticket!

Either the Z is a ticket magnet or I'm just really unlucky.

In October I got a ticket for doing 50 in a 35. I honestly think that it wasn't a big deal. It was late at night, simple mistake situation.

Now Last Friday driving 40 in a 40, I got a ticket for speeding in a school zone. It was 1pm and the motorcycle cop was being rude. I asked him why is the school zone in effect if the kids are in school, he said that they're on their lunch hour so the school zone is in effect. I think it's BS!

What do you guys think?

BTW this is in El Paso, TX. The cops here get a comission for giving tickets from what I'm told.

are you kidding me? :icon9: is that legal?

In Florida, they have to post the exact times that the school Zone is in effect. Over here in Texas, they said that the lights are on when the school zone is in effect.

I've come home late around 1030pm and see these lights blinking could I have gotten a ticket then. B.S.!

About the cops getting a comission, I meant that they get congradulated for giving out numerous tickets. You figure there'd be worse things for them to worry about.

in va the school zone is only in affect when the lights are flashing. that's usually like 7-8 and 2-3 around the high school and 8-9 and 3-4 for the elem schools.

That can't be the case that police get commissions for tickets. That would lead to a huge conflict of interest. If its the case, I'm in! Get to drive at excessive speeds legally, and pull mugs over like crazy to make extra cash.

While I really have not clue, that would never work because the defense attorneys would eat that system alive as creating inherent bias in EVERY case of speeding.

I would definitely lead to vigilant officers, though!

Here it's a school zone between 7am and 4pm....

Hmm, I know in California it says "When Children are present" under the sign, So basicaly whenever I see kids by the school I slow down to 25 mph

Monsta 01-16-2005 07:31 AM

From what I remember (being able to drive during school hrs and not workin LOL) school zones had flashing lights. The sign posted "speedlimit while flashing". Something like that.

Its most likely different with the state.

You say you were going 40 in a 40, what was the school zone speed?

obd 01-16-2005 05:40 PM

ROFLMAO.....hmm "why is the kid zone speed limit in effect while school is in session?"

dumb question.

Maybe because kids tend to be running around schools at any given moment while they are there...do you REMMEMBER elementary school??!?!? My school was near the road and my freinds and I were always running around where we shouldnt have been (as in near the streets). Why? Because we were young and didnt know any better.....which is EXACTLY why school speed zones exist: to protect CHILDREN........but I can agree that the worsts times are 1. begining of school 2. lunch 3. first hour after end of school.

At least you didnt try to tell the cop that school zones should only be in effect from 7:00pm to 4:00 AM hehehehehe

Its interesting because the local elementary and junior high school that I travel past going to and from work only restricts speeds during arrival times and departure times.. It may be that the normal limit is only 25, so I guess there isn't as much a need to reduce speeds as there would be in a 40+ zone..

anyway, I agree that it was probably real good restraint to hold off on arguing with the officer about how ridiculous having reduced limits in effect while the kids should be in school..ha That probably wouldn't have gone well.

No, cops don't get a commission on the tickets they write. However, their job performance is rated on their productivity just as any other job. If their primary assignment is traffic then a PD can set minimum job performance standards; i.e. how many traffic violations should a normally observant police officer see during an 8 hour shift? If you think about it, you would be the first to criticize cops for sitting in the donut shop or standing around BS'ing with each other instead of doing their job.

.

In Oregon, the school Zone is in effect 24 hrs EVERYDAY!!!....I have no idea why they made this idiot rule....maybe they thought some kids will stay at School untill mid-night....

It's funny I should read this thread today cause in the morning I was driving through a school zone with a chp at my right and one right behind me. Anyhow, it was definitely during school hours and I thought, "Oh sh*t, what should I do." I kept driving 40 and wasn't pulled over. So I guess they do enforce it only when children are present here in So. Cal.
