Let's talk about speeding

...and driving crazy in general

If I am going 100 mph down a perfectly straight stretch of freeway and a car quickly changes lanes in front of me so that I have to slam on my brakes, am I wrong? I don't mean legally, of course I am going 35 mph too fast, but who is the a$$hole here?

There are some other situations that I am wondering about too. Let's say I am going 130 mph in the left lane and I zoom past a soccer mom in a minivan full of children driving at half my speed in the right lane. Was that too dangerous? What if I drift a left hand turn or I am sitting at a red light and I do a standing burnout? Any thoughts?

that`s one of the reasons we have speed limits in the first place, so if someone needs to change laines, they can do it without having to worry about some speeding ******* running them over.

You can't be serious... but I'll entertain you cuz I'm bored...

If I am going 100 mph down a perfectly straight stretch of freeway and a car quickly changes lanes in front of me so that I have to slam on my brakes, am I wrong?
yes... refer to Sensation's response.

I don't mean legally, of course I am going 35 mph too fast, but who is the a$$hole here?
The other person certainly isn't...

There are some other situations that I am wondering about too. Let's say I am going 130 mph in the left lane and I zoom past a soccer mom in a minivan full of children driving at half my speed in the right lane. Was that too dangerous?
IMO yes... any time "this guy I know" significantly exceeded the speed limit, there have been no other cars around and no intersections... with LOTS of visibility.

What if I drift a left hand turn
Depends on your ability, visibility, other traffic, room for error, etc... again IMO

I am sitting at a red light and I do a standing burnout?
They're your tires... but I don't see the point... the cops don't like it either!

Stay safe!

Well, I have a WRX right now, but strongly considering getting a Z. In general, I'm an extremely impatient driver, with very little patience/self control when driving a fast car. I'm a person who likes to have fun while driving. I have to force myself to realize that there are people on the road who don't care for driving much and consider it a chore or who just want to get to where they're going in once piece. That's fine, just get out of my way, & I'll try not to cut you off or slam my brakes in front of you. But if some punk, in a Mustang GT pulls up to me revving his engine, then it's time for fun.
I raced a couple of crotch rockets when I had a '99 Vette and beat them doing 150mph on a highway (of course the drivers on the crotch rockets had their girl friends riding with them), so . . .
Bottom line, I try not to run anyone off the road, and force myself to have self control whenever possible.

I'ts all about using common sense. Driving "crazy", as you put it, is NEVER cool. There are times when it is safe to exceed the speed the limit and there are times when it's unsafe to drive at, or even below, the speed limit. The mature, smart driver knows when these times are. Unfortunately, this knowledge is not something you're born with or can learn from a book. It takes years (yes YEARS) of experience driving in all sorts of conditions to learn it. Some people never learn it and wind up dead.

Good luck

+1......be safe.

Unfortunately, someone else may wind up dead too.

i say that if we all went quicker then there would be no speeding... like if some one pulled in front of you when you were going 130. but if they were going like 150 then there would be no collision at all. dam...

Masterfulks Feb 27, 2005 01:22 PM

If you drive that way all the time then you probably wont die of natural causes....

i know what you mean...i get kinda p!ssed when that happens too. i dont think that most of the time, the other driver is not doing this on purpose though, so i would say that you are more at fault.
usually when i speed like this, i make sure there are not many ppl on the raod and make sure that i have at least one clear lane to the right of me so that if someone changes lanes, it wont be into my lane.

35 mph hmmm thats 15 yards a second faster than that guy in front of you, and since you have (at least) a 1 second response time, you have to be 15 yards away from that guy to even have the chance to begin the braking process,

and since the 350z decelerates from 60 to 0 in 119 feet, and you need to decelerate 35 mph to get to the same speed as the guy in front of you, it would mean that you would need 70 feet in pure braking distance to match his speed. (in perfect weather conditions)

so it would mean that you would need to be AT LEAST 40 yards away, before he does this manuever to be able to slow down to the same speed... and this whole process will take about 3-4 seconds,
so if you blink, turn down the radio, look at you girl, light a cigarette or something you will miss it...

Or if you are closer to this guy, you will have no chance in avoiding an accident... causing a wounded/killed innocent person(s)... Do you want your concience to deal with that?

So in my opinion you would be an ******* if you drive like that with trafic on the road...

I just ran across a P*rick in a BMW (of course) I was speeding a bit doin 70 in a 60 goin around a bend, when out of nowhere I see this moron gettin on my tail, I immediatly went into the left lane and let him pass, he "gunned" his engine needlessly and took off passed me, I caught up a little further and paced just to see how he drove, cutting off people, almost causing an accident to get into another lane. I see inside what..a 19/20 yo punk with his blonde girlfriend, Im sure he must have a big C**** to drive a nice modded BMW and own the roads of Seattle too...WOW!

kamz Feb 27, 2005 10:06 PM

I like driving fast as well but unless you are in the boonies with no one around I certainly don't recommend going any faster than 80-90. Gotta think about the consequences. Other factors come into play no matter how good of a driver you are. I plan to enjoy my Z, not die in it.

FLZ_Boy Feb 27, 2005 10:52 PM

Even on legit freeway speed, people still change lanes in front of other cars. It annoys me when people have no depth perception.

Too many careless drivers out there. Going at high speeds when there are cars up ahead is risky. A hit 140+ on a open empty road.
