My paint doesn't match!
Ok, I've just discovered something. I have never really checked out my Daytona Blue as much as I have today and I found that my fuel door and my rear bumper do not match the rest of the car. It seems to be a shade off. This is very noticeable on a very sunny day. I thought that it might be because it's plastic but my front bumper matches perfectly. Does anyone else with a Daytona Blue or anyother color have this problem????

It could be that it was painted at a different point in time. When I get mine I will tell you what mine looks like. Hope it isn't one of those crash and rebuild horror stories. Get out that refridgerator magnet.......Just jokin'

I actually have the same exact problem. Cetain angles look better than others. But what can we do?
|
Well I'm going to have it repainted. If it was the metal I would reconsider but since it is plastic I will. The fuel door stands out the most on my car. Im very anal when it comes to my car and I could never live with it. I am going to contact nissan and tell them that I wanted taken care of.

I think it's partially due to the fact that parts are plastic and use a different kind of primer. I'd call Nissan and talk to them, or take it back to the dealer, but I don't know if they can help. Maybe someone else has already tried?

sometimes
I think alot of it is this the way the light reflects off of it because it is at a odd angle in relation to the rest of the quarter panel.
It seems to be even worst in photos. It also seems to be with the db color so it is more than likely an illusion caused by the lights reflection with the color blue. |

It looks different at certian angles .. but at others... it looks jsut fine

This post reminds me...thankyou....
When I went to drop off my car at the nissan bodyshop (why?...read my other post), one of the painters was smoking up front. I got talking to him, and he said that to his eyes, the paint on the front bumper was slightly off than the hood or the rest of the aluminum part. He said that is because they have to mix some additive in the paint to make it more flexible because it's a plastic(or whatever) not metal part. :) :) I'm sure now everyone's going to look at strange angles at their bumper. God only knows what other people think of us :) |
Yes I have 2 Z's. Well mine is pretty bad and is very noticeable. I want it painted because it bothers me. My DB looks BEAUTIFUL and I want it to look perfect! You are right though that it looks worst or better in certain angles.

every blue Z ive seen is like this. my 02 formula bumpers are mismatched too. most bumpers are off a shade or so if you really get to looking.

My DB looks "off" from certain angles. I think it is just the way the light reflects off the different surfaces. From other angles, it is perfect.

it's just weird how my CS is just fine. I was told that the plastic peices were painted seperately but I'm not sure that there is any truth to that. Oh well...

Every DB that I have seen has the paint mismatch. Mine is very noticeable. The third party paint inspector was here yesterday looking at the orange peel on my car, especially the rear bumper. He mentioned that he has noticed this with many different makes and models of cars. I know that it occurs on other cars. It is just VERY noticeable in lower light settings. The only time I don't notice it is in very bright sunlight. I mentioned to him and to NNA that I found this difference to be beyond the acceptable limit. Hopefully I will hear from NNA soon regarding his visit.

I've only seen one Daytona Blue so far (since I'm still waiting for mine) and it's gas cap was a different color than the rest of the car. I didn't notice any difference with the bumpers, but that gas cap was really noticable.
Y'all keep me posted to see if they get this fixed, so mine will match when I finally get it! :( |
Mine is definately noticeable as well. More on cloudy days without direct sunlight. I don't know if anything can be done. Is there? :(

Any body shop guy will tell you that you won't get the exact shade on plastic and metal. Look at any new car and you'll see the same thing.
