Made in U.S. vs made in Japan
I guess this is a tough question to answer in general since most of us don't have two Z's by which to compare. In any case do you guys think there are differences in quality between the two?

Umm...all the Z's are made in Japan. There are two factories in Japan that produce them. I think it is one of the only cars Nissan has that isn't assembled in the U.S.
Are you trying to compare a U.S. spec Z compared to a JDM Z?

I thought they had the one factory in Japan and built a new one in Japan for the 2004.5s and stop Z production at the first one.
As for quality, I don't really think car quality is as much about where it's built than how it was designed to be built and how the employees are treated. For instance Toyota Camry's are built here and they do quite well for quality. Read the book "The End of Detroit" for an interesting look at the issue.

All Z's are assembled in Japan.
Your VIN (vehicle identification number) will start with a "J" if your car is Japanese. U.S. assembled VIN's start with an "I".
The Oppama plant made all of the Z's until last year when production shifted to the
Tochigi plant (I believe April 1st, 2004).

Yes, Armada, QX56, the all new Quest, and the Titan are assembled in Canton, Mississippi.
The Maxima came over with the most recent style change in 2004.
And yes, a lot has changed since Carlos Ghosn took over the helm. We have exciting products and a bright future.
What did you do in the industry?

The thing that I like about the Z is, unlike American cars, it doesn't share it's platform with any other car. The Z is pure Z nothing else. Designed to be a Z and nothing but a Z.

The Z introduced the FM platform, for front/midship engine placement, but has since been used for the Infiniti G35, Nissan Murano, Infiniti FX, and Infiniti M35 and M45 for 2005.
