Too many Z's in San Diego...Good or Bad?

I'm new to the Z family, and I have to say it's a great car. I got my Z last month and noticed there are a lot of Z's here in San Diego. It's not a bad thing, I mean you can never get tired of the thumbs up or the head nods. Anyway, I was going to Barnes & Nobles in MM yesterday. I'm at a light and notice 2 Z's fly by in a span of 2 minutes one had 2 hots chics :icon38: in it. So as I pull into the parking lot I notice another SB right in front(I have an 05 SB). Then another SB, then 2 Silvertones parked next to each other(kinda cool...), and in the next aisle a DB. "Wow there's a lot of Z's here" I thought to myself. Makes since though Z owners are inteligent people right? Unless there in there looking at car magazines :) . It was pretty busy that day so I back track to the beginning aisles, wow another silvertone, then a CS, as I finally find parking at the far end only to see another CS. At this point I felt like my Z was nothing special :icon31: . As I walk towards Barnes & Nobles noticing the Z's as I pass, I realize I really need to fix mine up. Since mine is bone stock just like the other Z's here, it's nothing special...I guess I'll used this as a drive to give my Z a face lift. Mag section here I come!!!

BTW. There's a theatre in the same complex. And I returned the next day to watch Star Wars, and YUP! 6 Z's in the back of the theatre, who knows how many were sitting in the front...

Southern California has more sports cars then the rest of the planet! :icon38: My neighbors around me have an '03 350, a mid '60's 'vette, a '30's and '40's coupe, two Porsches, an '05 Mustang GT ...

It was that half the Porsches in the world were sold here.

The weather and the attitudes here have some to do with it.

Hell, you gotta be well off to live in San Diego . . . unless you've had a home there for a few decades. I have relatives there and a home that costs, let's say $100K in KY (rather small home), sold for around $350K there. I wouldn't mind living there, but my company would have to have a huge cost of living adjustment for me :D

Well like you said, when there are a lot of Z's then a stock Z doesn't get very noticed. Thats about the only bad thing.

The good thing though, is that the more Z's there are the bigger the chance of people modding their Z's in local shops and so many local shops would have the experience of working on the Z. So you would have quite a few places to choose from when you want to do mods. The other good thing is that ussually the more Z's there are the bigger the Z club is, and its always fun to hang out with other Z owners. Down here in Miami there are a lot of Z's, and we have a huge Z club, and we have a meet or cruise about every weekend, and its always a blast to hang out with these guys. So as long as those Z's that u see are driven by people who are real enthusiasts and love the car and didn't just by it because it was "the new thing to drive" then its good to see a lot of Z's. Just get something to set yourself apart and enjoy!

Take care and have fun driving the Z!

I think that the thing is that once you own that car you look for it more often and notice it. That might be a reason to but it is also San Diego lots of people around.

I visited my friend a few months ago in solana beach, north of san diego for a few days... needless to say we took a cruise up the 101 up to huntington beach and probably saw 20-30 Z's along the route. But then again, i saw the same amount of 911's and SL500's too. Where i live, sports cars are pretty much uncommon, so it was quite an eye opener for me.

I see a bunch here too, and I liked it at first, but now it`s starting to get annoying.. Especially since it seems like 75% of the Z`s I notice are silverstone

350G, that home you were talking about that sold for 350,000 in SD county would have to have been a shack with no windows. I'm sorry to say that 350,000 for an unattached home sounds ridiculously cheap to me. I'm not happy about that, but that's how it is. I hate how expensive everything is. Yeah there are a ton of 350's here in SD, but elms350z, what do you expect in "Manila Mesa" where the 350Z is probably the most coveted vehicle. Don't you hate how full that parking lot always is??? Episode 3 was awesome btw! I saw it in MM on Thursday.

I agree . . . my grandma's house was purchased back in the 70s for about 40K . . . she sold the house for approx $350K and moved to NC . . . $350K buys quite a bit in KY . . . no less than 3500 sq ft of pure excellence.

I work with 50% of the builders in the area and it seems that many of the customers are from CA or other highly populated areas . . . they love the Southern hospitality and the cheaper rates. :D

I just spent 12 days in Japan. I have a Porsche and a Z so noted the numbers of each in Tokyo and Kyoto.

The total number of Z's = 9 between both cities.

The number of Porsches? Too numerous, I lost count.

SHO-TIME May 22, 2005 04:59 PM

there must be at least 10 Z's parked in the parking structure at my downtown office.

35oZephyR May 22, 2005 10:43 PM

Mira Mesa is like the "tuner car mecca" of San Diego.

Back when I was in highschool, this was where everyone from around the city united to organize street races.

Nowadays you'll see all sorts of cars on that street. It's the only place in San Diego where I've seen dozens of modded EVO's, STi's and S2000's roll around in one cruise. Not to mention everything else.

I personally know 3 or 4 people who live down the street from that particular Barnes and Nobles with a 350z, so chances are you'll always catch them in that parking lot.

I don't live in Mira Mesa but I use Mira Mesa Blvd. almost more than once a week to catch a movie, go to a restaurant or get on one of the three linked/intersecting freeways.

BTW: I was at Barnes and Nobles on Thursday to see Star Wars too! :icon17: But my car is pretty "modded".

elms350Z May 23, 2005 07:22 AM

It's good to see a lot of Mira Mesa people on this forum. I agree MM has a history of Street racing and fixed up cars. I guess since the laws have gotten so strict everyone just went out and bought sports cars :D .

Come out to Pt. Loma ... there are only a few Zs out here. It's pretty nice. I get stopped every now and then having people ask me about my new car, and I'm like "yeah, I got it a lil' over two years ago ... but okay".

When I was up at Edwards in MM ... I felt there were way to many Zs, so I know how you feel.

Advice for you. DO NOT MOD :) hehe. I started, and damn it, its gotten quite expensive.

350k for a house? I think my garage is worth more than that :( ... this place is too expensive.

CAN0802 May 23, 2005 09:01 AM

I saw three Z coupes along I5 north going toward Carlsbad yesterday. I still feel secure in my ZR, not as many of them around, but I have been in a situation where I was one of three in sight at the time. No big deal though, at least it's not like I am being with the crowd and getting a BMW 3 series vert, they are everywhere here.

When my Integra Type R was stolen it was found in Mira Mesa....

I work and have friends that live in Mira Mesa so you may have seen me around as well.
