Default 287hp Z and 300 hp Z

when buying my 350z enthusiast the dealer told me the only difference performance wise between the 300hp and the 287 hp Z was the ecu.so is there ecu's that are tweaked to give 300 hp? or are there other differences between the 287 and 300hp Z. if so what are they?

There is a little more done for the 300hp models. They should output roughly ~255 RWHP down to the wheels stock (powerband seems to be better). You can search around the forums as there is more indepth details.

Haha! It's ignorant, lying, no ethic, ********ing sales people like this that give all sales persons a bad name. Recognize this jerkoff would say just about anything to you just to get a sale.

Do your own research, anything you possibly want to know can be found on this site through it's search function. And, make sure you don't buy a Z from that lamer you ran into.

the times that they run in the quarter are about .1 or .2 seconds difference not worth the extra money to me.

Judging by Magazine times, they are the same, actually I dont think many mags have tested the 300hp just one and they ran 14.2 iirc. Fastest mag is 13.7 by MT for a 287 hp model. I havent heard of anybody running one on the boards yet, so it hard to say. I would suspect that the times would be very similar with a slight edge up top obviously going to the 300 hp models, but def way to close to always predict who would win, driver is 99% deciding factor in that race imo.

300hp = Variable valve setup....nothing more. The salesman was on the right track, but not quite right.

On the right track ... umm ... no. The rev-up engine in the 300hp Z and 298hp G35 has upgraded cams, rod bolts, intake manifold, crank, and probably 50 odd other parts, in addition to varible valve timing on the exhaust side (287hp have it only on the intake side).

Well, lets suppose thats true....."50 odd other parts" only making a 13hp increase doesnt make much sense now does it (especially when one can easily do that with just the right intake/exhaust setup+flash tune).

When all else fails, read the book. This is available in the '05 sales manual and on-line at Nissan.
