Census: My driver's seat rocks slightly. For those who had this...

Was it something loose in the assembly or was it a defect in the rails?

Lightning Dec 3, 2002 07:25 AM

i wasn't aware there was an official fix yet... is there? mine clunks on left and right turns.. kinda odd feeling. anyone?

Zaphod 350z Dec 3, 2002 07:35 AM

Same thing. I can grab mine by the side bolster and the thigh support and make it clunk. I'm going to get in there with a socket set and just start tightening everything. I'm not going to waste my time at the dealer if it could be something stupid like a loose bolt.

droideka Dec 3, 2002 07:55 AM

I think it's safe to say this only happens to the non-leather, non-powered models. I can't remember a single Touring owner complaining about this. Sounds like an issue with the rails.

I have the same problem. It is not the bolts that hold the seat to the floor...it is a design flaw in the seat itself. I told the dealer, and there is no fix as of now. Mine only rocks when the seat bottom is in the full incline position...in other words, when the front of the seat is tilted up all the way. My solution was to tilt the seat bottom down (with the dial on the left) in small increments until I was no longer getting any movement. I'm missing out on a little bit of thigh support (which I desperately need because i'm 6'4"), but at the seat does not move. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try and then figure out why it does that. Maybe we can make our own fix.

Thanks,

This works for mine too. I'd like to have the full up position (that's why it was adjusted that way in the first place). I'll wait for Nissan to have a fix before I mention it.

Early G35s had to have the seat rail replaced due to rocking. I'm not sure if they have a TSB out on this but a couple members from Freshalloy.com had it replaced.

Just want people to know on my 3 day old SilverStone Track that this happens as well. It rocks from side to side even during easy corners...

No problems. Touring model. Leather seats. Weight of 165-175.

SunsetZ Dec 3, 2002 10:30 AM

This does occur on the Touring models also. Mine was tilted up at the front. I would get a small lateral movement with hard right hand turns. I have not noticed this since I lowered the front of the seat. I thought maybe it fixed itself somehow, but now I guess it was adjusting the seat that did it.

i've noticed a little rock in my seat (track) the tilt function doesnt help. i tried it. but it really isnt that noticeable to me.

hmm.... any 1 contact NNA about this?

imntcrzy Dec 3, 2002 01:29 PM

as of now Nissan engineers from Japan are pulling my seats out and sending them back to Japan. They are aware of this problem in other 350's and will find a solution. I will post news as soon as I hear from them

Does anyone have the TSB # for the seat fix ? TIA, JMS in TX

350zSpeedRacer May 9, 2003 05:34 PM

Yeah, my track model does this occasionally, and I know at least one other Dallas person who's had the same problem. :( It's not really a big deal, but when I take a corner hard it's a little unsettling.

Apexi350z May 9, 2003 08:16 PM

there is a thread that talks about how to fix this. But here is a quickie..

The problem is caused by the height adjustment bar. What you need to do is remove the driver seat, the turn it over to exposed the bottom side of the seat. Goto home depot and buy a cotton pin, then locate the height adj. rod under the seat, then drill a small hole on the rod/bar itself on the other side of the adjust wheel. Insert the cotton pin, and thats it! just make sure it holds the rod/bar so it doesn't have movement from side to side.

It's about a 15-30min fix...not too hard..

From a previous thread

If you look in the Problems section, you'll see the DIY Fix for this. IT looks as though some people have had dealers "work" on fixing the issue.

Here's the thread...

Wow, good timing, I was just wondering the same thing as my enthusiast is having this problem, starting to bug me more and more.

Is There a TSB for the seat ?

Thanks all for the replies ! Is there a TSB for the seat problem ? JMS in TX

Sounds like Nissan better get on this. It happens to mine too. I thought I was going crazy. I cant make mine do it, it just does it on its own. I am going to try to lower the front of the seat. Thanks for the suggestion.
